Unhappy *sigh*....that sucks.

Florida DMV gave me some bad news today...

There is NO chance of me getting a title/registration for my 85...the original owner has to sign off on it, and she's dead. They have no way to prove that it's *really* my car, so they said it's only gonna be good for parts.

I absolutely hate to do this, because I look back and see a year of solid building, and it's all for nothing now.

On the plus side, there's a nice TII here in town, with a fresh rebuild in it... and a clean title.

I need to sell all of these parts very quickly, and would prefer to sell it all complete.

First person with $2500 takes it all, including the $3000 wheels.

The full list is here:

It's a 1985 Mazda RX-7, GS model.

The good:
RB Springs
Tokico Blues
Mazdatrix DOT-Approved Braided SS brakelines
RB Braided SS clutch line
RB Strut brace
RB Streetport Exhaust system
Hawk Black pads (front), Hawk HPS+ pads (rear)
New OEM rotors (less than 1,000 miles)
GSL-SE Tranny
VERY RARE 15x8" Centerline IMSA wheels (one of SEVEN sets EVER made in 4x110mm, appraised at $3,100)
205/50-15 Falken Azenis Sports (75% front, 25% rear)
1982 GSL rearend, LSD and disc brakes
Lightened driveshaft, new u-joints
Entire front of car is Energy Suspension urethane bushings
Rear sway bar removed
B&M Short shift kit
B&M T-Handle shifter
MINT interior... little to no flaws anywhere... just needs a good cleaning (even has ORIGINAL floormats!)
New starter (less than 1,000 miles)
New 1000 amp battery (only 6 months old)
Sylvania SilverStar 7" headlights
New front brake calipers
New e-brake cables
New oil cooler lines
1979 Front mount oil cooler conversion
1979 Shorty radiator (for FMOC)
Flex-a-lite electric fan (flows 2200 cfm)
1980 Steering Wheel
Solid roof (no moonroof!)
Good condition Gas tank (only had approx. 30K on it.)
Push button starter
Some other stuff, I'm probably leaving out...

The Bad:
Needs a motor, fuel delivery and intake, and fuel pump
Needs paint
Needs some very minor finishing to the body itself.

Isn't this the one you had till it was impounded, then you bought back from the impound yard? If so, the impound yard *should* have given you some paperwork to get a title.
At least, that's how most states do it. Once the impound yard has the authority to sell the car, all other owners and lien holders are null and void.
That's how I got mine and it was from another state.

In GA this would be no problem at all. Titles are not required for cars this old, just registrations. To get registered takes a non-notarized bill of sale with the VIN on it. A wife can write a bill of sale for a husband, for example. Once registered other states (like SC, probably FL) know that GA does not have titles for old cars. Once they see it is registered, if sold to someone in SC, for example, they print a title out immediately upon registration. That's how the "title dudes" do it, and I think that is why many of them have a GA address.........................

That f'n sucks. Did you only talk to one person at the DMV? Sometimes with things like this you just keep talking to people until one knows how to do what you need done. If no dice, I'm sure you thought about a relitive in another state you can clam residence with or something to get it regestered?

in michigan I took a motorcycle to the police station, had them sign a form from the dmv (SOS in MI) after the officer noted the vin number and and it, took the form to the dealer I got the bike from who turned the form into the dmv(SOS) and paiid the title fee and i got a title in the mail inside of a month.

if you have to, go to another state!

Just like rustnrot says.

someone in a non Emissions county in GA or AL could do this for you. They just make a bill of sale, put insurance on it and go to the DMV.

There is a title service in AL and NV, that will do this for you. I will post up the addresses tomorrow as they are on my work computer. If you fell like using the Seach Button you can find them under my name in the Lounge.

You can absolutely get a title. Here are some suggestions--all legal, (but you will need to read the rules and laws carefully). Take your pick:

1. The executor of the former owner's estate should be able to sign the title. (That is one of the responsibilities of an executor.)

2. DMVs usually have some (unadvertised and little-known) process to petition for a new title, which may include sending a certified letter to the last registered owner, or placing an ad in general circulation newspaper. (It may take some persistence to get a title this way.)

3. Place a lien on the car, or have some "friendly" garage owner help you do this.

4. Use a title service (may cost ~$150-$500). Here are a couple:
http://www.its-titles.com/
http://www.broadwaytitle.com/

5. Find a friend in a non-title state such as Alabama, and sell the car to them, then back to you. This is the same procedure the title company would use.

I think he's just tired of the whole deal and doesn't want the car anymore. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's my impression...

Where are you guys getting that Alabama is a non title state? Our cars are titled from 1975 and newer. Go to Georgia.

You're VERY close...

I've dumped a full year and over 8grand into this car, and it still doesn't run, and now I come to find out, that I can't even get it titled.

It's been too much headache and stress, and at this point, in a city like Jacksonville, I NEED A CAR. This city is WAY too big to not have a car, public transportation SUCKS (it stops at 10pm... I get off work at about 3am... **** THAT!), and cabs are getting too expensive. I spend on average, 150-200/week on cab fare alone. For anyone that feels like chiming in and saying "you should SAVE that money for a new car, or a motor, and everything else for your car, yadda yadda yadda", this is not an option... I need to get to work... and I work all over the city. It's a different marina every day, and sometimes I have to go to St. Augustine, or Ocala, or even Orlando... in a cab. This is my only means of transport. While it's not cheap, it IS reliable... they are always at my door on time, and sometimes they cut me a deal on the fare.

Yes, I'm happy to have it back; however, no matter what I do, I still have another 3grand to drop into it, minimum, to get it where I want it, and even then, it will still never be "done."

I need a new project, and I'm hoping a TII is the right solution for me... I can't get away from the rotary... you all are my people... I couldn't imagine losing y'all!

Either way, I need this car to go soon... and I'm hoping it goes to a good home.

So you don't need a "project car", you need a "daily beater car". Or a cheap little pickup.
