This *****in distributor!
I brought my rx-7 to a garage maybe two weeks ago to fix a "click click click" noise at high RPM.... he looked at the point gaps in the distributor and they were finished... so he changed one of them(he had only one in stock) and ordered the other one. Today when I went back so that he could put the new one, when he was finished installing it, my RPM would go up and down like mad and the car would "follow" the RPM and the "click click clikc" noise would now start at like 2000RPM. He tried fixing it 4 times but then he gave up and didn't know what to do anymore. He told me to get a 81-85 distributor(not a bad idea since it will be an electronic distributor) but what the **** am I going to do untill I find one? I can't drive my car because that noise bugs me too much and the RPM keeps ******* up. Any of you guys got advice?

Airflow is my life
I see them for $50 on ebay, usually with igniters. I wont pay more than that. Yea get the coils too.
Sounds like a small vacuum leak. Since you been in the dizzy, try either replacing the vac advance hoses, or blocking them off.

I'll sell you a dizzy with two tested igniters for $50. I have a second gen leading coil if you wanted to convert to direct fire on the leading, the igniter on it is dead, but you don't use that igniter anyway, the coil works fine, $20. I've also got brand new Mazda cap and rotor sets for the points setup if you were going to keep the stock components, $20 per set. All plus shipping.

I am with Rx7carl.
It may be a vac leak. He could have broken a hose while he was messing with it.
Did the guy know what he was doing with the points?
Try to find someone older that has done it a lot in the past. One of the sets could also be bad. Could have been bad in the pack. Did you keep the old set?

Click click click? Could it be a high voltage leak? Does it sound similar to an electrical click like when you hold a spark lead near ground? Maybe it's bad plug/coil wires. They are cheap and easy to replace. Could be a crack in the dist cap, too. It's happened to me on other cars.
