$500 for a non-running SE?
I have the opportunity to buy an SE with a bad motor for $500. The guy is throwing in a spare working 13b that I'd need to swap in. Is this a reasonable price? The car is in above-average condition, and the interior is great.
Good deal. Swap in the running 13B and you've got yourself a running SE for not much money at all. If you are willing to bang up your knuckles a little, you could have yourself quite a nice purchase there.
I would take it if i were you. buy it for 500, lets say you pend about 200 for special tools that you might need to do the swap yourself, then spend the rest of it on mods. Great deal

That's a steel! You better pick it up quick. I would pay 1k for an above average condition se without that motor he's throwing in.
Alright, the only reason why i'm a bit reluctant is it's winter here in MN meaning very cold temps, and no decent indoor place to work on the car. I really don't have any extra space to store it until spring either, as my other Rx7 is resting in the garage. Thanks for the reply's.
You better nab it up or i'll go back there and get it, lol. For all you know there is nothing wrong with the original motor, even if there is a spare running motor, you just won the lottery. As for storage, put it up on jack stands for the winter and
get a couple of plastic tarps to put over it, when the weather is ok outside take them off and let the paint breathe. rx7doctor. Don't forget to put stabil in the gas tank.

i jumped on my 84 SE that wasnt running for 500$. All it took was some new injectors(the owner new nothing about the car and thought the engine was blown.) and i had a nice SE that lasted a few thousand miles
whats the suspension/brakes/etc like?
any rust?
might want to consider what its going to take to get it rollin' again compared to just buying one thats already functional.
still sounds like a good deal, tho. i'd go with it

Yes, I got some pictures of the car it looks really nice.. the interior needs a little bit of work, but at the moment I have no way to pick it up. Hopefully I'll figure something out.
