You need to learn about rotaries and carbs, especially using Holleys. They don't mount the right way
on a rotary and also suffer from a lot of issues when cornering. It takes a lot of mods and tweaks to make it work in the twisties reasonably. Why EdelBrock hasnt made a 700cfm with super small primaries for turbo models i'll never know!! |
Also when you buy a Mercury Cougar XR-7 and switch the nameplate to....you guess it! RX-7
|
You know you are a 1st gen owner ..........when your wife ask you to drive your 7 and instead you
buy her a Honda |
You know you're a 1st gen owner when...
Use the 7 to pick your wife in order to prevent her to take her BFF with her. or when the driver seat is old and raged and the passenger seat is pristine as new. Also when the plate of the door handle literally disintegrate in your hands |
You know you're a 1st gen owner when...
After a couple of days errand out of town, you came back and....with the chariots of fire song stuck in your brain.... in slow motion you run to hug your 7 |
You know you're a 1st gen owner when...
You think the movie Collision Course with Jay Leno is great because you saw for 3 seconds a brown RX7 targa crusing before the beating of the bad guy at the breaking ground scene of the new clinic. |
When the local police know your house as the one with all of the rx7's.
When a tear comes to your eye every time you see one in a junk yard with a decent body thinking, man I want to buy that and drop a 13b/v8 in it just to keep it on the road. When you can't find a carb on a junk yard car because those always seem to be gone before the car even hit the yard. When rotary is life. When you get excited to explain a rotary engine to someone who has never seen or heard of one. When your grandfather used to talk about the one time he met Felix Wankel and discussed the engineering behind rotary engine so you become so engrossed in them you and your brother have owned more Rx7's than girlfriends combined. When your grandfather had as much love for the design of your car as you do even though he never had the fortune of owning one. When your dad finally realizes your low mileage rx7 is actually more reliable than most new cars on the road today and stops saying, you'd save money by buying a new car. For the silver cars: When one of the first questions people ask is "Does it have a flux capacitor?" Or "what happens when it hits 88 MPH?" When the other people ask, Hey Han, where is chewie? When your license plate says Chewbca and people think it is because your car either is the loudest thing around or they think it looks like the Millennium Falcon. |
"When your neighbor asks you why you would ever restore that."
|
You know you are a 1st gen owner...
When you are an exclusive auto shop owner, and you stop work on a Lotus Esprit or a Porsche 928, or any other exotic, just so you can work on your 7. I do it all the time!! |
When you routinely search Ebay for parts no longer available new.

When you chuckle after someone says the Holley 500 is the smallest 4bbl carb.

about the best ive found so far is a edelbrock 500cfm with a little tweekin it does pretty good!!
Why EdelBrock hasnt made a 700cfm with super small primaries for turbo models i'll never know!! The Edelbrock is the better daily driver carb, but the Holleys give you the choice of center-hung or side-hung floats, so the cornering issue is easier to tune out that way, which is more of a bandage than a proper fix. A side-hung Holley turned 90* would be great for a cornering car with no power, such as a non-turbo Rotary. |

Yes, they didn't hold the outside handle when closing. |
when women express shock that you dumped $2000 on a rebuilt engine. And if you say, "I just got the engine rebuilt"....when it was really 12 years ago
