When your family car has more power but your 7 is waaaayyyyy faster.

When your girl gets mad at you for "ignoring" here cuz your face is stuck looking at 7 parts

No kidding. I can't believe how many parts supplies have dried up in the five years that I didn't own a first gen. I'm so pissed that I got rid of all my spares.

When your dad buys you your own Fb so you will stop asking to drive his SA and then wants to drive your fb after you restore everything on it and is suprised when you tell him he can sit in the passenger seat but can't drive

prophetjohn 06-23-14 02:19 PM

you know you're a first gen owner when you take a drive for 3 hours, and didn't realize that the radio wasn't on. :)

mustanghammer 06-23-14 08:45 PM

You actually get used to people telling you that your engine is "cute." Bet they think it cute when they watch me drive by on the track :egrin:

"is that a triumph?"

the cop asked at a road block, "it sits so low".

ShawnMua 08-23-14 07:52 AM

when you go blow-tru just to keep it old-school
when RX-8's give you thumbs up every time
when your rx7 is older than you? or it just applies to me? I'm 5yrs younger than my rex :D

iowa_hawk1 08-25-14 03:56 PM

When you've owned you're RX-7 more than half your life and you bought it new.

DivinDriver 08-25-14 04:24 PM

When you realize that your daily driver, which you bought new, is now older than your first-gen was when you first bought it.

Or when you realize that there are "non-maintenance-item" parts on your first-gen that you have worn out twice already.

When visiting family also involves the use of tools you don't have and they are 100% cool with that.

Bernadette 10-15-14 08:35 AM

When you've been married 27 years and you've had your RX-7 30 longer than that (30 years this month!).

1985 RX-7 GS

Same here!

Lets see, got my SA in 1983 used. Got married in 1986. 31 years for the SA and only
28 for the wife.

Married for 20 years last May; bought the SA 25 years ago last month. The wife and I shared our first kiss in this car.

Memories? Oh my, yes!

So that explains the need for all these new seat covers.......;)

When everything but the shell needs replaced with better stuff. FC front suspension / brakes / steering, entirely different rear suspension geometry and brakes, taller wider wheels, modern V6, etc.

Economiser please tell me that you made a mistake by typing in v6

Why stop at the shell? It could certainly be made a lot stiffer :)

But keep in mind that in their day RX-7s were soundly beating the Porsches, Corvettes, BMW's, etc. which arguably had "better" steering, suspension, and engines. Race results demonstrate that "better stuff"does not mean everything.

I hope the V6 comment was a typo. Add a couple more cylinders and I won't complain too much though. :)

When your dad promises your mom that "we are taking it around the block" and " will be back in time for dinner"

Three hours later, and a tank of gas.... yeah we ate on the road.

I also learned how to drive stick shift in my dad's first gen. I know own an 88 gxl

Jobro 10-27-14 04:21 AM

When you own a genuine 2002 Spirit R Type A but the 1982 is still and will always be the fast car even though it has no engine, no diff and is rusting away.

economiser 10-28-14 11:32 AM

Just because I chose a "wrong" engine doesn't mean you can't learn something from what I do to the rest of the car. Or that I can't learn from what y'all have done to the rest of your cars. Now, back to the funny comments.

When someone asks you to check out their FB (facebook) page, and you get a little excited and ask them what year it is.

Holley Pro-Jection with optional closed-loop. It'll pay for itself not only in fuel mileage, but also reduced bore wear-equivalent, whatever the rotary equivalent is.
I once made the mistake of reverting a TBI engine to a Q-Jet, never again.

You need to learn about rotaries and carbs, especially using Holleys. They don't mount the right way
on a rotary and also suffer from a lot of issues when cornering. It takes a lot of mods and tweaks to
make it work in the twisties reasonably.
