IL Yet another Buyer Beware...

"1980 Mazda RX-7 Series 1 Collectable Rotary Engine Auto
65,000 Miles. Parts or Fix Up Car"

Ok, here is the deal. went out to look at this car and figured the guy had to be full of it when he told me that it had not one spot of rust. I didnt want him to know that i took pictures cause some people are weird like that so i got there before he did to look at the car.
From about 30 yards the car dosent look too bad. but upon closer examination the car is full of small dents, rust on lower rockers, lower rockers and has a big scrape on the fender?? evidently the previous owner tried to ramp over a fire hydrant so the front needs work.
the only reason i post these... is for comments like this... "THIS CAR HAS NO PERFORATION OR SURFACE RUST - IT NEVER WAS USED IN SNOW!"
now i am not a retard and neither are the rest of the 1st gen guys. but a midwest car is hard to come by that has no rust.
i can understand a rock chip or a small scratch that can be fixed because of the damage on the front...
I will just let you be the judge.
BTW>these are my pics<

notice the lack of surface rust, or penatration?? i was standing with the owner in front of the car. either he dosent know what rust is or he is an idiout.
he told me he just washed and waxed the car and that it had been stored since 2002. to my suprise the motor is not locked up at all, but the whole leingth of the upper fenders on both sides there are mouse dropings. as wwell as on the strut towers, hard for a critter to do with the hood CLOSED!! the cowl vent looks like it was pried on so to open the hood ?? he had no explination for that so i am assuming that is how it got there.
the interior is in good shape minus the dash being cracked and it smells really bad. rodents must have goten in there and made a nest someplace , other then that the door panels are in super shape, seats and carped are good so long as you dont mind the smell...
here is his ebay item number 150238761408 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...238761408&rd=1

almost forgot ... here are his pics for those of you that are too lazy to go to ebay

for the record ... he would not even try to start the car. nor let me use my jumper cables...

Did you buy it? Cuz seriously that car isnt in too bad of shape. A little bit of 80 grit would take care of that rust no prob. Tails look to be in good shape also which seems to be hard to find.

OK so I reread your posts, and talked to you on the phone and I understand what you were saying. The interior looks great but smelled horribly of mouse urine. Also you mentioned that the front end looked tweaked as the panels didnt line up very well. Also the guy who was selling it seemed a bit shady and also didnt seem to know much of anything about the car.

I don't understand why it has a FB front end? Anywho, I thought this was the same one I had seen on E-bay. Either or, the owner should not be misleading or untruthful regardless if this was a 2008 Vette or a 1979 Chevette.

lol, my whole reason for posting this was just to inform. i would not pay 1100 for this car personaly. the front needs to be straitened on a frame rack. if however you had the parts for it it would be a good deal cause the body isnt that bad.
his reserve is 750... for those of you that dont care what shape it is in.
i can see someone paying to ship this rust free car only to get pissed off when they get it. i could see if you claimed no rust if it were under the car, but on the quarters??
i didnt notice anything under the car...

the guy said the bumper was replaced under his ownership of the car but claims the car was damaged by the previous owner??? dosent make much sence but there has been some body work done to the car that he either dosent know about or isnt talking about.
is it really that hard to sell a car and be honest??

Q: WHATS THE COST TO DELIVER THE MAZDA TO MILWAUKEE, WI IT ABOUT 221 MILES Apr-25-08
A: It will cost about $175 in fuel for the round trip plus wear and tear factor plus labor. So the total would be around $400. I would have to have the payment for the car cleared before delivery and would need the cash or bank money order for the delivery at delivery point. Thanks. If you are wanting a rust free car for restoration and/or daily driver, this is the one to get.

Yeah i would not buy that car for any reason!!!

He is obviously a shady character. If you look at vipergts_3 description and the ebay sellers description they represent two different cars. Especially on ebay if your not close enough to go see this car in person your going to get a big surprise.

Thanks vipergts_3 for giving everyone a heads up on this car because who ever buys this car is going to be pissed off when they get it and compare it to the sellers description.

Thats cause i busted his fawking ballz about this pos he is trying to pass off as rust free. I can post the emails if yah wanna good laugh.

"I clearly state that this is a 'Parts car or possible fix-up car' on the heading - I didn't say it was a running car or a restored car. What do you expect for $700 to $900? So if you our your friends don't want a parts car, just don't bid on the car!

Don't bother to respond - I don't care what you think."

Dear rich-1944,

oh lets not forget how you didn't list that it smells like mouse **** inside the car. You better change your description before someone actually gets it for your reserve of 750 and drives there and gets pissed.

Dear Badazz84rx7,

"The car does not smell like mouse **** as you call it. It smells like a 28 year old car."

Thats all i have i deleted the other one.

Funny my 23 year old car does not smell like **** lol.

not many cars i have smelled that smell like that... for the exceptions of the ones in the country that have been let sit. and it has been stored in a lean-to style shed... since 2003
Dear vipergts_3,

Up until march, it was in a farm shed. The photos are from this year and 3 from 2 years ago.

the car has been re-listed and he is a bit more honest... still not disclosing the extent of the rust.

He seems to not know anything of that car. If you notice in his listing, he calls it a 12B, instead of a 12A.

Ebay is a crock of **** anyway. The only car I ever purchased there was junk. I'll never again buy a car sight unseen, no matter how many pics the guy posts.
This heap is just further proof of Ebay garbage.

Hello I was the winning bidder on this car (JDArens). I'm going to go pick it up tomorrow. I'll let you guys know the outcome.

But basically, I feel I got an OK price ($810) for an almost rust-free car. Here in Wisconsin, a car with that little rust is near impossible to find, let alone for less than a grand.

If the interior smells that's not a major issue, I plan on gutting it anyway, and using this car for mainly racing. As long as the motor is not locked, I'm praying the apex seals are OK, but it's a carb + disty so not an issue to get it running so long as the apexes are decent.

BUT since I have seen this thread at least I know what to expect. Thank you for contacting me after the sale even if it's "too late" so to speak. I did NOT see the front valence damage as it was not shown in his pics.

But regardless, the car has a clean title and is definately repairable, and will (most likely) be good for what I want it for. As long as the underbody isn't rotted we're in business.

But THANK YOU vipergts_3!

Not really, unfortunately... I checked Chicago and all of Wisconsin's... cheapest 1st gen I could find that was in any kind of decent shape was $2800.
