Wheel stud help

Ok today I installed my ARE rims on the rear of my car and found that one of the threaded holes for the wheel stud is stripped out and not to mention the studs only thread in about 1/4-3/8" in thread length. This is not long enough for my personal standards and I am racing autocross on the 12th. So has anyone pulled wheel studs through the threaded holes so that they are studs instead of the bolt style? And if so what did you use for size to bit into the hub?

I did this on the rear axle on my IT RX7 because one of the holes was striped. I ended up replacing them all on that axle.

The drill bit size would be determined by the size of the knurl on the studs you use. Typically the stud manufacturer will spec a hole size for a given knurl in order to provide the right interference fit.

From ARPs web site:

To determine what drill size you need, you will need to know your axle/hub material and the wheel stud knurl diameter. If your axle/hub material is cast iron or steel, your drill size will be 0.005” smaller than the knurl diameter. If your axle/hub material is aluminum, your drill size will be 0.007” less than the knurl diameter. The Wheel Studs section in the catalog, pages 76 & 77, list the knurl diameter size. When installing knurled studs, use liberal amounts of ARP Ultra-Torque on the threads of the stud, nut and washer (if applicable). This will prevent damage to the threads

This is what I did back in 2006, all is still well. Make sure you have enough thread coming through for your rims.
