That engine looks really nice. Check the clearance on the apex seals grooves; buy new apex seals and a soft seal kit (the fel-pro kit is my fav) and enjoy.
Take a pic of the rotors and bearings. I don't see any wear on the e shaft in the corners of the pics so I'd assume the bearings are a ok.
Hard to tell until they're cleaned up but it looks like there may be some fatal corrosion around the water channels and O ring sealing grooves, which would be a shame.
I'm curious about the "X" irons too, anybody know where these come from?
It still wont start, after checking and re checking several things to ensure they are correct. I did a compression test with a conventional gauge and only get 80psi on each side.
Why so low? I've read about adding some oil to the combustion chamber, what is the best method? Thanks for any help. Im almost ready to burn this car!!!!
Vaseline on the plugs is something to look out for, and make sure you use a little inspection mirror and flash light to make sure the L and T plug holes in the housings are also clear.
Make sure that the timing is good, ie using flywheel method and looking at distributor pickups, set engine at TDC and make sure everything lines up.
On my 12A streetport (Dellorto!) first start after a rebuild, I removed plugs and the carb and cranked till I had oil pressure. Maybe 3-4 5 second cranks. Maybe less for you with a beehive.
With carb filled I primed accel pump with throttle movement till I had the first sign of solid squirts from the jets. Then did 1 more squirt and it fired right up and idled with the help of a bit of throttle.
Did it seem like it was trying to fire? Also make sure you have a good strong battery. Pull plugs to make sure you haven't flooded at all. Vaseline from rebuild should help initial cranking compression.
Thanks, I am moving in two days so its been tough. I may have to tow it. Last night I drained the fuel tank. I know its a bit of a reach but that gas is probably 6mos old.
Update. I replaced the battery cables, and with a squirt or two of oil down the leading plug holes it started right up!
YES!!! here it is in the new garage... Happy summer motoring to all!
