What happened to SR Race Engineering?

I remember last year the owner of this shop was going to offering nikki modding services including a machining service package that I am/was interested in.
The only thing that works on the site is the home page and their Facebook page hasn't has something posted on it since sometime in 2012. I of course tried emailing them and that doesn't work I got shot back and error message.
This guy has kinda fallen off the face of the Earth.
Anybody know what's up with them?

I remember reading about this. There have been a few that have modified Nikki carbs but they all seem to go under or drop off the face of the planet after a few years or before they start. I suspect a high number of potential sales scares some independents off, and ultimately the amount of work needed for one carb ends up becoming the end for others as they can't keep up with the work load and just give up or otherwise. Paul Yaw did them for a while as most know. Not sure what the story on him was. Sterling is the next I can think of who stopped abruptly for unknown reasons. A few others in recent years have mentioned doing such a thing but nothing ever seems to happen. Even smaller custom parts companies catering to 1st gens and a small bit to other Mazda's don't seem to last it seems, one of which is ReSpeed which has recently dropped off the face of the planet.

No offence to the people trying to do good things, but being around here for nearly 10 years and seeing companies and people come and go hasn't given me much hope for a new company.

^Sad but true, been on here more than a decade at this point and I've seen more companies come and go than I can remember. All start off with good intentions but for whatever reason it either never happens at all or stops abruptly after a short while...

I've gotton to the point where if I can't build/mod it myself then I don't bother...

Sterling once broke it down for me while I was waiting for my carb from him. There is considerable time invested in modifying each carb the way he did, and for the amount being charged he wasn't making much $/hr for his efforts. RE-Speed is still around, I've spoken to Sam recently and he's trying to get caught up with orders. The problem with 1st gen parts is its a relatively obscure car with relatively cheap owners. To produce a quality parts catalog at a price acceptable to the customers generally won't leave much left to pay the bills, so a company has to branch out to other projects to bring in money which then cuts into their production time. It's unfortunate but there just isn't the demand for parts like there is for vehicles like Civics, 240s, Golfs, etc to allow a company to grow and bring on enough staff to support the parts line and real money making projects. Profit is what keeps a company in business.
