Visually inspecting FB Motor Mounts

I've been slowly going over the car since I've had it and after looking around underneath, I noticed one of the motor mounts seemed "displaced". Can anyone confirm if this is normal for the driver's side motor mount? First picture is the passenger side and seems centered, the other two are the driver's side that appear "offset". I know they are supposed to be different (13B), but wasn't sure if this was a surefire sign that one of them is bad.

Thanks!

I would loosen and remove lower nuts/washers on mounts on both sides and jack up the engine with a block of wood on oil pan high enough to be able to remove upper nut/washer on driver side mount.
Remove mount and inspect,it looks as if it’s separated. Is there oil leaking anywhere in vicinity of motor mount. Long term exposure to oil can weaken the rubber in mount. It is 30+ years old...

If the mount proves defective, best bet is using a Mazda oe mount, they’re still available. Aftermarket motor mounts are available but they’re dimensionally different causing installation issues and changing driveline angles.

Heed this suggestion. A little while back on this forum, a few of us members bought several makes of motor mounts and discovered they did not work. Other than the OE Mazda one, I don't think any where correct.

Thanks for the replies! I was more hoping for a "yup, that's definitely bad", so I could just commit on buying new ones, haha. I will also go with OEM as recommended, since they are still >$100 for both. Fleabay ones just seem...sketch.

I'll try to remember to take some more pics when I get around to removing them just to see how bad they were and if it was indeed separated. I didn't see any noticeable oil leaks and the mounts do seem dry, so hopefully there's no oil around it causing it to wear faster.

Can anyone confirm that the parts catalog is incorrect regarding (R) and (L) motor mounts? Mazdatrix and Atkins seem to agree, but dealer sites and the parts catalog indicates 8545-39-040 is the left side for non-SE:

I think the Mazda parts manual has motor mount #s reversed. Back when i worked for Mazda, there were a lot of typos in service manuals,we were constantly getting overlay pages to correct misinformation, not a stretch parts manuals would have them too.
I still have some of my service manuals from that time period and Japanese/English translation was at times confusing and hilarious.

79-85 Right side engine mount 8545-39-040
79-85 Left side non SE/Auto Trans engine mount 1668-39-040
Se/Auto Trans Left side engine mount FA55-39-040

Hope this helps clarify.

I had hockey pucks on my first RX7... worked great never complained. When my current ones give up the ghost I'll get another pair.
