Valve cover seals, muffler bearings, headlight fluid.

So i was on the road the other day and felt my tires a little low, i stopped into this quick stop oil change. i use to work for one a long time ago so i know they can be good people or scam artists.

So i asked them to check the tires they offerd to check everything else, i was in no rush so i let them do it and whent to there coffe room. the tech informed me that my rear end was leaking a little this i knew they offerd to fix it, i said no. he then informed me that my valve cover gasket was also leaking i played along and asked him to show me "sure no problem he replyed" we walked over to my engine bay and he points to my front cover, and says see this build up of dirt and grime its caused by the valve cover leaking and can cause engine failure and lifter tick, i asked if there was anything else he thought i should fix he said well its not going to hurt your car now but you should really get the engine main bearings and rings done that is exspensive but it should really be done withing the next 3 months to be sure the engine will survive the winter. i of course at this point was done with this place i got a repair sheet with a part number 5853 and there phone number.
The next day i called and spoke to the manager to double check these guys i told the manager what kind of car i a had and if they still thought i needed these services done, he said absolutley i asked if they could get me a deal if i did it all at once he said sure well knock off 60 bucks for you. after this i asked for the owners number he gave it to me.

My question to you guys is do i let them do these repairs for a total of 600$

i think if they do this i can then get a new bridge port engine when they settle out of court......

ask the guy for his Shop's email address.
then have your Buddies, their sisters, their Friends,Uncles,Brother's Mother.ETC..all start to Send him SPAM!
Or,if your area has a "better business Bureau" .send them the info and see what they can do.
But, really, If they Don't know anything about your Engine,I'd just laugh it off and not bring my car there.

well i know a ton about my engine and car i have built my own engines also, my point was they could do the so called work and i would drop them with a civil lawsuit for false work and get a bunch of new toys.

Im aposed to this i have higher moral standing but really should these guys be allowed to work in a automotive repair facility?

I wouldn't do anything funny. Just go in there and give them a tip about how they are wrong with proof. Besides your scheming is now logged on the internet

"Say it, forget it; write it, regret it" is what a lawyer friend once told me.

If your state has a BAR (Bureau of Auto Repair) I'd take it up with them, IF the owner doesn't clean house.

You actually let other people check your tire pressure for you?

The only problem with your plan mate would be that you could be caught red handed with setting them up.

Not sure how it would work in court, but I bet you if their lawyer was sneaky enough he'd find a way to pin it on you for setting them up since you had prior knowledge to the case and blah blah blah. You know how them sleazy lawyers can be...

But yeah, kindly inform the boss to educate his minions!

I agree with the above two posts....
Besides the moral issues, you could get your tit caught in the wringer with this one, since you "know better".
Take the High Road....you'll rarely regret it.

i say go back into the shop with your buddy holding a hidden camera. nicely explain their huge screw up with trying to fool you with these misc. things that are wrong with ur car that are not physically possible, and tape the guy studdering and stammering like a moron as he tries to explain the confusion with a twisting web of lies. then post it on youtube to show others why they shouldnt bring their vehicle to this shop...

this really angers me because a girl i know went to a local shop in my area and got charged out the *** for some simple repairs i could have done in a matter of 30 minutes. and some of the things they said they changed hadnt even been touched or made no sense whatsoever to why they were written on the repair order. its pretty pitiful how shops prey on innocent ppl just because they dont have the knowledge to work on their own vehicle

The 929 had a muffler bypass system that used bearings. I don't know the year, but if anyone finds out then I want to order one. The part description is Bearing,Muffler.

meh, some of you guys are taking this too seriously. there are mechanics out there who still do not know what a rotary engine is...

this is why you take your car to a specialist and MOST rotary car owners already know this, because they see and drive their car daily where this hole in the wall shop just repairs any type of vehicle. they pointed out an oil leak, which you DO have an oil leak, which they will find out where it is coming from once they tear into it or you may wind up with them trying to cover up the fact that they didn't know what they were getting into.

so is it worth it to try and do a sting on an unsuspecting shop? let other people complain about poor service, you have a specialized engine unlike 99.95% of the other vehicles on the road.. let it be.

I'd call the owner and politely inform him why his employee's aren't qualified to be doing much more than checking tire pressure. I'd also go in and tell the guy that told you what was wrong why he shouldn't be lying to customers. He might just look like an idiot in the end. The next person might not know as much about their car as you do, but they might find out the shop was full of **** and nail them to the wall for it.

I wouldn't do much besides just talk to the manager as they said and tell him why they're wrong. Too many people are sue-happy nowadays, it's screwing up the world. Also, not many people know anything about our engines so just take the high road. I hate 90% of repair shops for that exact reason, many are flatout liars. And come on, man, check the tire pressure yourself
