That is cool! So that is the stuff to use for those doing body work and wanting to get back to OEM appearance.
This is what my original paint FB looks like. Very nicely applied at the factory, must have been some guy and some masking tape.. On front fenders starting behind front wheels..rockers.. and wrapping around part of lower quarter.
i am a little confused by the description, it seems more like the seam sealer that got used on the fender and headlight to body joints, but i guess we will see
t_g I think Waxoyl, which is a brand of its own, was used as internal frame rust protection as an aftermarket product. Mazda used its own stuff, typically body frames tank-dipped prior to assembly, as well as certain frame panels underneath treated with proprietary coatings, according to period adverts. The 3M stuff here would cure to a 'firm' (with some flexibility? don't know.) finish to be just chip-resistant. I am not sure it had any rust-protective qualities per se. That would be left to what was previously applied to the metal s a coating underneath...

Agree J9 - this looks to be a sealing agent, not something spread externally on a panel for protection. I know there are Chip Guard-specific applications out there. If, on that rain-bow day, I were to ever refinish my lower panels, I would want to replicate this look per factory. Then prob protect IT with some sort of new-tech clear membrane coating that is the Big Deal these days....
