too much torque is a bad thing.

I had a bit of a heart attack yesterday when I snapped a bolt while installing my new clutch plate. Apparently I don't know how to dial a torque wrench so I was applying about 30 lbs and waiting to feel the 'click'. Well I felt the click all right...and the head of the bold dropped to the floor. At that point I went in for a beer (ended up having about 7) and started to read about how to remove the monster flywheel nut.

Anywho...so I went out there today to take a look at my cluster f*ck...and decided for ***** & giggles to try backing out the stud with my reversible drill...and whatda' ya know...it came right out!! Whew!

Close call..thought I'd share.

& don't forget to dial the wrench back out to 0 before storing it for any length of time... otherwise, it will go off-calibration.

there won't be much of a "click" at 30. u just have to "feel" when the wrench reaches the torque setting.

So say we all.

Surprisingly we covered something like this before in an earlier thread, (forgot which one..) I think it was Trochoid that said something about the tension being released and how you could proably just use your fingers to get it out. Was really interesting.

Yup..that was basically it. With the head off, the bolt was easily reversed out in this situation. Of course there wasn't any rust or dirt to hinder the extraction either.

thats a good thing! if there was, you'd be welding a bolt to the broken bolt to extract it.
