Tech Toy Tuning Steering Brace and Tow Hook

T3 just made a tow hook, just wondering if anyone has one? also if anyone has tried their steering box brace?

It's so cool to see new products developed for our cars. I'm going to have to save my pennies for their suspension stuff next year.

Steering brace seems like a good idea, not quite a $70 idea though. Tow hooks just make me think of some punk teenager's Civic or 240SX.

$70 isn't a bad price, considering the look of the piece. Any bracing in these cars for racing purposes is much appreciated. They tend to flop about quite a bit when driven in anger. I remember being astonished just how much of a difference the triangulated CP-Racing strut bar made to the overall feel of my race jalopy. Even something as simple as pulling out of the driveway felt better since the car flexed quite a bit less coming off the curb at an angle.

That steering brace looks pretty clever. I'm liking that Gabe is developing new stuff for our cars.

and this is pretty cool too:

Ecstatic to see these guys making more parts for our cars, the toyota guys seem to really like them, I think I will end up with alot of their products on my car eventually.

I would love to see a master cylinder brace for the firewall. That's another flimsy area in our cars IMO

I wish someone would step up and do a rack-and-pinion conversion that can actually be ordered with some certainty of ever receiving it... and for a bit less than the only other solution out there.

Maybe TechoToys can step up?

I certainly see the appeal for a track car (though the R/P conversion isn't legal for any race series or autocross) but for a DD, the steering box does a fine job. The only time I had trouble was when I drove the race jalopy on the street with more than 2.5 degrees negative camber and super-wide race-compound tires. It got very darty and followed every crack and cranny in the road. My '81 on 15x7 wheels and all-seasons tracks dead center all day long and is a joy to drive.

Main reason I'm thinking in that direction is longevity & serviceability.

An R&P conversion that used a common rack would have a near open-ended lifespan. There's only so many decent SA steering boxes left in the world, and they are all old. And a bitch to change out.

most steering box will last if peeps will maintain the oil level and stop messing with the worm gear. Replace the tie rod ends and ball joints instead of blaming the steering box for lousy steering.

My RX-3s steering are tight even at high speed in excess of 130mph at +\- 9k rpm

i tend to agree. that's close to a tank of gas for some people when you think about it.

i'm of two minds on this. i'm not commenting on the past issues at all, but i do see where i think you're coming from. i actually happen to agree with Siraniko on principle, but having other options is always better than being pigeon-holed. i look at it sort of like the same thing as the rear suspension where some people are pro-Watts link and others are not.

IMHO Not very cost effective for a street car but it can be a good topic for show and tell.. Its like your spending hardearned on a virus protection on a laptop that is mainly used to postwhore the forum and watch **** lol

There are plenty of factory SA/FB steering box out there. You just need to know where to look and willing to do the R&R. SA and FB are not rare or hard to find like the old school rx.

confess much? see? aside from the insight and knowledge you share, this is why i look so forward to your posts. you lay things out so perfectly, so layman and secular.

I agree with you, a R&P kit would be extremely nice for the first gens. Different steering ratio, easier turning at lower speeds (un-powered of course), and easier to work on for everyone. I always wanted one from the hinted-at vendor but never would order from them.

T3 is a great company, worked with them on getting into RX-7's and they've taken the ball and ran with it - Gabriel is an awesome guy!

I would be down for a rack and pinion kit for my '79.
I'm deftly going to order the spare tire cover and the tow hook for my '80.

I ordered the steering brace thingy, at this point I'm willing to try anything to get the steering safer. And Josh has the towing hook on his car, I have seen it in person & looks racey!!
