79 Ltd ownership
I originally owned a Limited purchased from Charles Levy Motors in Columbus, Georgia, July 1979, that I had to let go in 1984 to buy a house, and am searching for the serial#, possibly to find out its fate.
But I now own a 1979 Limited Canadian Edition, number 80 of 150 produced, serail # SA22C-551577, which I recently acquired from the original owner, with 51,000 kilometers on the speedo (about 32,000) miles. It now resides in Missouri, USA |
https://picasaweb.google.com/1084602...21169218216194I have a question here. I understand the 83 Chateau Silver Limited Edition 7's with its badges and features, but whats with the badges on some other models of the same year with the Limited Edition badge on the dash? My 83 GSL has all the options like the Chateau LE but just don't have that paint job or pin striping. Mine is a Renaissance Red Metallic color which is the R3 paint code. 13 inch wheels I think with normal mazda rims. Here is a picture of the badge I am talking about. But I have seen this badge at the same location many, many years before you can find these in wally world or advance auto or something.

Hey, I'm trying to get on the registry as a legitimate 79 Limited owner. I had my first one bought brand new from Charles Levy Motors in Columbus Georgia...Had to sell it to buy a house in 84. But thanks be to karma, I was able to get another one, number 80 of 150 ( Canadian-even rarer than the US models) VIN SA22C-551577, with actual 51,000 kilometers on the speedo. I got it from the original owner, who was meticulous about maintenance and record keeping, as well as never driving in foul weather...needless to say, the car is a gem, 99% original, except a set of Boge driving lights added under the front bumer. Pics to follow.

I found a silver '83 Limited Edition rx7 at chico california pick n pull. They wanted $100 per car they had to move to get it out of the yard, so there was 10 cars i just left it there because i don't have $1000+ to spare.
seemed to be 100% complete and in fairly good condition, the 12a turned over by hand and i bet it would run well with some work. PM me if you want more information about it |

Got a question, went and looked at an '83 RX-7 this afternoon, has Limited Edition badging, but I thought that it was just one of those goofy dealer badges until I started digging. It has the 14" wheels & maroon interior, so I'm thinking it's the real deal. Interior is crap on it, it's been sitting for ~10 years, 110K miles on it, 5 speed, manual windows. Was stored inside until a few years ago, but still under a metal shed. Front bumper looks pushed back ~1/4-1/2" on DS from looking at body gap. I'm passing on it, got too many projects as it is, but trying to help owner since I'm a sucker for orphan cars. Can anyone tell me what this might be worth? His uncle that owned it passed away, and he's trying to sell it, and a buddy of mine that knows me as "that guy that likes weird cars" sent him my way for advice. VIN is JM1FB3316D0732603

Hi there, I own a 1988 10th Anniversary RX7
|
I just bought a 32,000 mile 1979 Limited Edition. The plans I have for the car are all maintenance , change all the hoses with OEM if available and change all of the fluids. The car will need a new stereo surround and a replacement antenna, since it was damage . I will also need to check out the A/C system to see if it is functional since the drive belt was missing when I bought the car and it was 10 deg. when I bought it and probably wouldn't have worked if I tried it.

Am the proud new owner of a 1979 L.E. Vin#SA22C546245.
I was originally looking for an sa or fb to do a minimalist, modified build. Now that I got this L.E. (already with a bridgeported motor, A/C components removed, and silver interior pieces changed black). I am now on the fence of whether or not to continue as planned. I may attempt to return all but the motor back to factory..... decisions decisions. Attachment 614772 |

76k original miles buuut the paint on top is pretty bad and the seats are dry rotted (poor lighting in the garage hides it nicely, though) https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...c701b810f5.png |
Welcome to the forums, always nice to see new cars come to the surface. Post up some better pics, inside, outside and underhood sometime. This is a good place to learn about what you have, what's correct to make it minty stock again or how to modify it for better performance if you lean that way.
|
A few more pics. I hope to have the seats reupholstered soon. Maybe starting with the kit racing beat sells but I haven't decided yet.

Did you recently buy this car off of eBay?
|
I bought it off someone who bought it off someone who bought it from ebay. The ebay seller bought it from a local craigslist ad which I was also following at the time.
First craigslist ad was the guy who had it in a barn, ebay seller put some parts into it, flooded it badly, and sold it at a huge loss, next owner only had it about a month, got it running, and resold for profit, the owner I bought it from bought it and just didn't like it, also only had it about a month. Edit: Noticed your location is Akron, are you the guy that sold me a glass sunroof last weekend? I can't imagine there's too many people in Akron with 79 RX-7s.\ Edit Edit: Kind of getting off topic here... I probably should have just linked to another thread. Oh well. |
Quick question. I have a 1980 SA but the VIN starts with JM.... not SA. Original wine red upholstery in leather and red body color. Is this part of your registry?
|
I was recently told, by a member, that my car is an FB and not an SA. Contradicting posts from members but the photo evidence must be true. My apologies for being mis-directed.

Year: 1980
Model: LS (Leather sport) VIN: SA22C 612365 Location: Layton, UT *bought the car pretty much as is from a nearby junkyard for $1,000, replaced the battery, ignition switch and added gas+premix and she fired right up. after a bit of basic maintenance she's now very reliable and my current daily driver. *Engine/Trans: Street ported 13B 4 port Killer bee from rotary reliability & racing with RX-5 cosmo housings and 12A irons and RX-5 cosmo 5 speed trans https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...84f4dceb69.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...efa49bfcf7.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...ab7cb71cbf.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...eb1b7959f5.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...8cb4f4b14c.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...8376d4bc4d.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...5e7d4a36a5.jpg |
There's another LS near me (exact same model as mine), but the owner swapped in a chevy V6 because it's somehow more reliable than the 12A that came in it:/ i'm on the fence about buying it just to return it to stock, but this is just plain sad: https://www.ksl.com/auto/listing/3297342?ad_cid=8

Sold my LE yesterday it's being driven from Akron Ohio to Louisiana by it's new owner. I told him about this site I he should be posting soon.
|
I am a new member. I just bought a 1979 Limited Edition off Bring-a-Trailer. VIN SA22C 545627. Less than 32,000 miles. Some posts on BaT questioning the accuracy of the miles, but if anyone saw the car - no doubt mileage is accurate (based on condition of pedals, carpet padding, upholstery, console, no corrosion, original spare, long list of low-mileage evidence), and if anyone ever spoke with the seller, no doubt. Seller really knows his cars. I drove it back from Ohio to Louisiana without a hitch. I posted some pictures in my introductory thread. DRO
