I know this is a long shot, but I will ask in the hopes someone can point me in the right direction. I bought a 1979 RX7 in 1985 while I was stationed in Portsmouth, NH in the Navy, drove it until spring of 1989 when I sold it to a man near Muskegon, MI. It's the only vehicle I have ever regretted selling so, about 15 years ago I started trying to find that car. But, I was still in the Navy so the search was hard while performing my duties at sea. Now, 33 years later I'm retired and would like to try and find that RX7. I do not have the VIN, and I went to my old car insurance company and they let me rifle through their records but they had destroyed most of the stuff before 2000. I had a personalized plate on it, would the SOS be able to look up the VIN if their files even went back that far?

All I have is a couple pictures of the car. Is there anyone who could help me or point me in the right direction. I know the car could be junked or it could be anywhere in the world, but I'm guessing if it's not junked it's still around Michigan. Any help would be appreciated, I am willing to pay any reasonable amount of money to buy it back regardless of condition.

 

What color and trim level is the car? Any distinguishing marks, dents, options etc?

 

Can the Michigan DMV find the information based on your old plate?
