Is this rx7 worth going after?
What do you guys think of this rx7 he doesn't know anything about i can tell that by the post it is clearly not a 92 rx7. I own a 79 rx7 but i want one more i can play with this one looks good he says there is zero rust but need interior and carb work. He wants $1000 dollars or he will scrap it what do you think?

lol, i think this one came up before?
its an 83 GS, because it has a sunroof. its been in an accident, see the poor panel fit, and the incorrect front bumper? it was also repainted at some point, before the black, as there is red overspray on the tail lights.
that being said, if its rust free, it does look complete enough, and if it runs, the price is ok.

are those original seats? reason I ask, my 1983 rx-7 had them like that when I bought it in 1990.
Minnesota? no rust? maybe if it was a garage queen with low mileage. Check behind the storage bins, or check the rear wheel wells.

No rust on a 30+ year old MN car is pretty much impossible unless it was stored in a climate-controlled showroom its whole life. My red car I'm building now has no exterior rust (amazingly), but the bins are still somewhat rusty and getting POR-15'ed once we get some nicer weather.

Cody, you haven't looked for rust until you've lifted the carpet.
Get your butt in there and lift the carpet to check for rust.
Like DR says, it's probably there and it needs to be arrested real soon.
Too bad you missed out on that 83 FB, it looked like a real sweaty, even with J9's accurate assessment.

It's a little bit of a hassle to remove those pannels, but not too bad. You might might find some long lost quarters or something hiding in there. If you do take em off, snap some pictures so you have something to show anyone in the future for whatever reason.
It is possibile to keep a clean and rust free car in the snow belt, you just can't drive them in the salt and winter crap. The majority of cars are however used as basic transportation at some point in their existance as they get older, become less valuable and change hands. The major advantage of buying an old car from its original owner is, they often have loved it and looked after it. They generally suffer less neglict and abuse.

It would surprise me if there is rust the car is very clean looks like the interior might have been restored tho or the car was hardy driven. But the underside is not the best probably sitting in a garage for awhile.

It does look like a nice clean unit Cody, you just may be right.
But better safe than sorry.
The first indication you will have that rust is a problem is if you have trouble removing any of those screws holding the sheet metal down over the rear wheel wells, in rusty cars these are often a problem.
But I gotta say, it looks pretty good so far, although if that's fresh red paint in there it might be hiding something.

I am 95% sure somebody has restored it before or at least painted it because inside where the wiper miter is all the red paint is dry cracked and old and it doesn't match up with the rest of the car. If I had to guess the paint has been done and the carpet looks brand new. But it still has all the original parts like the radio and seats and the drivers seat is torn. This car is stumping me looks to be restored but alot of it looks original.

Dupont overhauls are not that uncommon. The first thing people look at is the paint, so it makes sence to freashen up a car cosmetically by re painting it while retaining the stock components. The more you fix, the more it costs and it doesn't take long to invest more in restoring than what you can sell it for. Thats ther current state of our cars as colllector vehicles. You can take it as far as your desires or wallet or wife lets you.
I'd say your guess is right and you won't find much rot under the pannel. Might be a good time to pop off the rear inner fender plastic too. Poke around with a flash light through the speaker holes to see if any coorosion has found its way to the inner fender cavity. I've saw vehicles that accumulate a surprising amount of surface rust under the car and in the engine compartment, just from moisture sweating up and out of a concrete floor.

Instead of looking to buy another car, I would use that money to buy the racing beat exhaust you are looking for. They do come up used every so often, but most 1st Gen owners are parts hoaders. I know I have a full racingbeat street port exhaust that has not been on the road in over 15 years....but like most 1st Gen owners I have a plan for it. I am not saying to give up the search but from your post you seem to be inpatient so if you have the money for another car I would just get the exhaust new from racing beat.
