rx7 hoarder

i have a problem. i have now 3 rx7's, one in the garage and two in the driveway. my girlfriend is getting pissed as her car keeps getting pushed farther and farther from the house the one car is my turbo project, one is the parts car im parting out and the other im picking up sunday. Its an 85 gs, it sat outside and hasnt ran since 1997, currently sunk in the yard to the frame. The interior is mint the body isnt bad at all and the engine bay is all complete. I paid $500. the rad was half out of coolant and the bottom hose was hard (worries me). the pully wont spin but im assuming its carbon locked it has 92K miles. my plan is to use parts from my 84 to make the 85 a driver and have it all done for under $900 thats including the cost of the car, title work, and plates + what ever it costs to get it running and driving. what all problems do you guys think ill encounter with a car that hasnt moved since 97? think im being too optimistic?

Well, any part that's been actually in the ground is probably corroded all to hell... Exactly how far towards hell will depend on how wet the soil was and how acidic it is.

I'm guessing you're looking at a fair amount of brake, steering, and suspension refurb work.

Engine wise, it's hard to guess; it could just be carbon blocked, or it could have gotten wet inside, rotted all the soft seals and corroded the plates & hard seals. Really no way to tell without inspection.

ok, you are not a hoarder..you are a collector.. my wife constantly reminds me that i have owned 32 RX-7's in the last 12 years...she thinks i have a problem. i currently own 5 and two parts shells.. at the rate you are going, you will surpass my number and enjoy yourself more than you ever thought possible.

the gas tank isnt touching the ground, and the body isnt touching yet. im hoping the brakes are decent on my parts car i can just turn the rotors and swap the spindles in the front, and on my 83 the rear brakes are new so i can just put them on. on the sunk car the clutch and brakes still are holding pressure so thats a plus. how worried should i be about the half full rad and hard lower hose?

my FC was parked in 1997, and we put a battery in it and it fired right up.... and even passed smog on the old gas.

the cooling system is is pretty poor shape.

but the only parts ive replaced are the upper and lower hoses, and thermostat, everything else including the belts are 1987...

I've got 6 cars currently so I wouldn't say 3 is "hoarding" lol
My daily driver FB was sitting in a junkyard with no wheels on it for who knows how long and I resurrected that, so anything is possible!

i know anything is possible, but the object is next to nothing budget i have pretty much anything you can think of as far as suspension/brakes/engines/trannies go. but id really like to do hardly anything to this thing and have it last me until winter haha next year my turbo fb will be done and hopefully not blow up all summer.btw how much rwhp can i expect from a stock port 12a with S5 turbo, i upped the oil pressure by smashing the rear and shimming the front regulator it also has the 17.5mm pump

I'll have to take a picture of one of my best friends Rotor Shop here in town. He has at least 40 Rex's in his yard. Believe me, I'm there often. You should see the inside of the shop..

You think that is bad? I know and have personally visited several times a gentleman in Central Florida with over 75 RX7's. 60 of them are 1st gens and he has a personal 85 GSL-SE with 6k original miles on it. He has several more with 15-20k miles on them.

All of these cars are rusting away. He used to be a mechanic and bought out a closed Mazda Dealership. He probably has $500,000 in parts, all new, in bags, that are NLA. 12A Rebuild Kits, FB fenders and Hoods from the factory in boxes still, thousands of good used items.

I was put in touch with him by a friend who said the gentleman wanted help selling because he had had a stroke and was getting old. Unfortunately he is a hoarder.

Each time I've attempted to sell a part for him, he hems and haws and says, "Nah...don't really want to sell right now."

He's just going to rot away along with all of his cars as unfortunately he's never going to sell a single bolt. It is a shame.

Well, hey, for Neosho Missouri I don't think 40 Rex's is too bad. And, he's been in business since 71'.

Good luck finding another rotary shop around. A 'serious' one anyways.

Believe me...I've tried. He has no family or anything. Unless something dramatically changes he is just going to die one of these days in the near future and it would literally take years to clean out all of his stuff. Although it is mostly RX7's he has able a half dozen classic cars in beautiful condition that he has stored in his garages. It truly is a shame.
