the RX-7's little brother

i was out today enjoying the nice weather in the RX-8 and decided to take some pics and share since i don't really post pics of the 8 all that much. i bought the car in dec of 08 when i was christmas shopping for my wife. i was driving my black 88 TII and was sick of shoipping, so i drove to the mazda dealer down the road from the mall to oogle over the RX-8's. i ended up talking with the salesman about a then new 09 RX-8 when he offered to let me drive the one we were standing by. i dove it and explained to him that i liked the car but what i really wanted was an 04-05 in brilliant black with cloth, a 6spd, rear spoiler and under 40K miles. no sooner he said that he thinks that he has one "in the back" fitting that description. we get back from the drive and he brings it around and its an 05 in brilliant black with a 6spd, cloth, spoiler, and having only 29K miles! it still had the auction writing on the windshield. he said that it was just brought in that day and hadn't even been in the service dept. he explains that it was originally a lease turn in (my first thought was that it was probably beat on but luckily it was not). he told me the price was $12,999. i put a deposit on the car so i had first take at it and brought my wife back the next day to drive the car. she loved it and the rest is history. i felt that i had the best christmas gift that year so anyways, here are some recent pics of the now 36K miles RX-8:

Man, I always loved the way the RX8s looked. They seem to be such a great family/sports car all in one. Too bad I don't have the money for one yet. Yours is looking really good.

i thought the price was right for the car. after the papaerwork was signed the salesman told me the car was supposed to be $18,500 and marked don to $16,500 because of the slow sales of sports car in the winter.. i don't know who marked it at at $13,000 but i'd like to thank them. my wife only agreed because our daughter's car seat fit snugly in the back seat and during the test drive, she fell asleep.

well, i have my cars insured through state farm with full coverage. i'm over 25, no tickets, a home owner (also insured through state farm), i'm a cop, and i pay like $75 per month for the RX-8..i'm not sure if thats high or not but i don't think its too bad. state farm has been a good insurance company.

Very nice buy. RX8's are awesome. I had the same car! Mine was an 04 6spd sport. No spoilers though. I bought it brand new in 2003. Man I loved that car. I sold it in 2005 to relocate to Houston from MA.

As long as you're insured, why don't you fire up the nicest one and bring it out to the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix July 24 or 25. Heck, get your wife to drive one and bring two. The West Penn Mazda Club would love to have a good showing. Last year I think mine was the only 1st gen in attendance. Here is a link to the PVGP web site:

Nice 8 man. I had one too. 2006 Shinka. Beatiful car, but It was a victim of teh bad cold start assist dilemma. Mazda never wanted to fix it, so I gave it back to them 9 mos later.

I miss it, but not the shitty MPG and horrible treatment from the dealership at that time. It was the first and last ''new'' car I ever bought.

thats sad to hear man. my RX-8 has been nothing but reliable and has been consistently getting 20-21mpg. i happy with the gas mileage as compared to my 88 10th Anniversary TII and my 85 GS with a GSL-SE engine. both of which get around 14mpg.

All the renesis engines are being replaced unded extended warranty. They overheat, thin oil, poor fan programming, weak motor mounts, clutch brackets snap off, HID lens overheats and blurs. But.. of course.. with No Pain comes no gain.

I picked up a 04 GT loaded with new warranty Renesis. There is tons on market right now with new engines. Im gonna fix cooling and already put thicker oil.

i've switched to 10W40 engine oil. i have had my engine mounts replaced under warranty. no cooling issues, no clutch pedal issues, hid lens on the driver's side is a little blurred (but what hid lens is not over time). all around a great car and i have no regrets.

digital camera was dead yesterday and i couldn't take pics with it yesterday.. but i got one with the cell. a tire rotation was needed on the 8 so i rotated the tires and checked the underside of the car, inspected the suspension and checked the torque of the nuts and bolts on the chassis. here's the only pic i took:

I'm bringing back this thread due to the recent purchase of another RX-8. When I bought my current house in 2012, I was unable to afford two car payments and the new house payment so I was forced to sell the RX-8 pictured above. I had missed the car for the last few years and decided it was time to buy another.

This one was about three hours from me. The guy bought it in 2009 in NC in an auto auction after the car had a light hit to the front. He brought it back to Ohio and had the car repaired and had been driving it sparingly and decided to sell it. The price was right and the color was right. It was missing a few options that I wanted but I figured for the price I was paying, I could add those in later.

I got the car on 3-13, yes Friday the 13th! It has 91k miles and runs and drives great. The paint was faded badly but the price was right for the car. The car was filthy from the drive home. It rained the entire way but the car never missed a beat. Wishing it has DSC though, lol Here are a few pics from the journey home:

After I picked the car up my son and I met with some fellow rotary enthusiast friends that we all know.Lucy and Luck got a chance to get to know one another while we ate:

Then I decided to wash the car because it was absolutely filthy:

Ordered an oem trunk mat and picked it up at the dealer and installed it:

A few days ago, I installed the rear wing. I got the mounting templates from Mazda and finding the correct mounting location was a snap. I like the way it turned out:
