RX-7 Autocross Videos. Post them here!

Hey guys. I ran across this older video today, and thought I'd share it. This is a collection of several local RX7s, and most of the drivers are members here.

The footage of the cars other than mine was shot by me, while the video of my car was taken by Man in Black (nicknamed "Shakey").

So, waste a little time watching some of our guys knocking cones over and spinning out....

Thanks guys. It is a lot of fun, and a great way to push your car (and yourself) to the limits without risking a crash or a ticket.

It does look a bit confusing at first, but it doesn't take long to get the hang of it. Walk the course a few times so you know where you're going, then go for it.

I think this is by far the easiest/cheapest way to get your racing fix. The entry fees are usually about 20 bucks, and you can borrow a helmet if you don't own one. Next thing you know, you're a race car driver. lol

Maybe we should just make this a dumping ground for all of our race videos? Post them up if you've got them, and then maybe we'll get a mod to change the name to something appropriate.

Okay, I took some time this evening and threw together some footage from last spring. This one is 90% rotary, with a couple of other cars thrown in because I felt they were "worthy".

One of them is the first Porsche to have beaten me in years (what can I say, I was having an off day), and the Lotus, and that damned Supercharged Miata that gave me trouble for the longest time (but I think I've got his number now).

I didn't take the time to do anything fancy with this, no tricky transitions or soundtrack, but its still got RX7s doing what they do best. Enjoy the show....

Wow, I forgot just how much my car smoked when I let off the throttle. No wonder it died on me.

lmao. I'm still coughing from following you through the Dragon last year! But yours was nothing compared to my old engine. I literally shut down both sides of a freeway. I looked in the mirror and all I could see was smoke, so I pulled off the road. It was a couple of minutes before cars started driving past me (during rush hour no less). I think that if they'd known I had caused that they would've lynched me.

My oil control rings blew because I followed the Haynes manual's advice on how much oil to put in after an oil change. This information, of course, was for a car with an front mount oil cooler, so I ended up over-filling the system by about a quart. Later I found that in the back of the manual they had the updated information on my car. But of course, by then the damage was already done. I think I drove her about two miles before the rings blew. But after I added a couple quarts of Lucas, she was 90% okay and would only smoke at the races.

Have you found your new motor yet? Or are you rebuilding the one you've got now?

That last video I posted turned out a little funny. All of the cars looked a tad "squished", so I redid it at a different ratio setting. I think this version looks a bit better:

Haha I thought our cars looked funny.

I have an SE 13B sitting in the backyard and will be pulling my 12A and delivering both to Rotary Dynamics for the rebuild and porting as soon as I get back home from this trip. They said 4-6 weeks for build time. Now is probably when they start getting more business so that's understandable. Be sure to let me know about any races in Michigan. Once the engine is broken in I'm going to need to give her a good thrashing.

Here's what I got

I just did my first autox event yesterday. It was fun. I won in my class (STS aka ST2?) - the catch was it was only 3 of us in the class. I know I have tons of room for improvement without doing too much to the car - just adjusting the suspension and stuff. I had a blast, hope to go to another in 2 weeks.

I'd post video, but a) camera was crap at distances; b) it's my FC, not my FB

Well, I dont have a camera stand, and this is the only one I recorded for the day. Had a passenger do it. I'm sure you can hear the cones I hit.

BTW - yes, the exhaust is loud. I was trying out an exhaust for sale from a friend. Too loud for me

Nice! Too bad those cones aren't smart enough to jump out of the way, huh?

yeah, same 2 cones had me all day. Funny thing is that I was posting better times than my friend with a half bridge s4 coupe.

He let me drive his car later and I pulled 1.5 second better times than him

I really want to get my FB rolling so I can take it out there and keep up with those damn miatas!

Figured I'd share one of my runs on my first time out in the dry. First time ever was pouring rain. Had lots of fun.

Looking good Sarge! Very interesting course, but at least it looked like the pavement was in great shape. Your car looks great too....
