ON Rear quarter glass

Stripping down my '81 to get ready for paint and having trouble removing the rear quarter glass.

Anyone have any tricks on how to do this (and keep the glass in one piece).

TIA

If you must remove it, have a glass person do it. The removal is similar to the windshield. There is a screw under the black triangle piece but the glass is held in place with sealant.

you need a piano wire style glass remover, or one of the really long razor blades the glass guy had.

I recently did this on my 85 parts car.

This involved:
1. Find or drill a hole through the sealant.
2. Feed a wire through.
3. Wrap both sides of the wire around handles.
4. Pull back and forth, cutting the sealant.

Things I learned doing it:
1. Get actual piano wire, the crap clothesline wire I used broke about 6 times for both windows.
2. The sealant starts smoking almost immediately once you start cutting. Nothing to worry about.
3. Run the wire through both the top and bottom beads of sealant so you can be on the outside of the car to cut. Way quicker and easier.
4. Be careful where the wire is rubbing. In my case, I didn't do any damage to the window, but wore off body paint near the front side of the window.
5. Once most of the sealant is cut, you should be able to gently pry the window off from the last bit.
6. The wire gets hot enough to burn your hands and any interior plastic bits it may come in contact with.

Good luck!
