Cool Realistic Top Speed

Looked through a ton of threads but only found hp/torque/drag times but no top speed values or estimations

I have a stock 85 gsl (minus the rats nest)

havent been able to run it yet and going into winter wont be able to for awhile

Was wondering what a realistic top speed value would be for this. Not downhill with tail wind....

Cheers

I've pushed close to 130 before backing off (unsure of tires), but my car is slightly modified.

Yeah i have had it all the way up to 115 ish and it was still pulling hard (mines not stock though).

But anything over 115 in that car scares me a little.

I had my old FD in between the 160-170mph marks on the speedo. Dont really know how accurate the speedos are, but still it scared the hell out of me.

in my first rx7 with a RB header and almost straight through exhuast i hit 135 while doing down hill and up another.

my neighbor had an SA with a 12a with all the bolt ons. he said he had it at 130-140 and it was still pulling hard. oh yeah, the SA he did it in is in my sig below.

The vehicles in your sig are very similar to the vehicles in my driveway. I have an '83 GS(L) and a '90 nissan king cab. Both with over 210K and running strong.

As for the top speed, it totally depends on the condition of the car and engine. Stock, they were capable of hitting around 120MPH max. The cats were too restrictive for the engine to make enough power to reach any higher speed. A tired engine will likely reach it's top speed in 4th and slow down when 5th is selected, while a healthy engine can accelerate in 5th after 4th is topped out.

Depending on the condition of the engine, it should hit 120, maybe a little more. Anything over 110-115 becomes dangerous due to front end lift. That very light steering and slow response to steering inputs is very unsettling. Most of the after market front air dams correct the lifting. I've had the widebody up to 120 with more left to go. The wider front fenders of the kit greatly increase the Cd and in the long run cuts down the top speed potential.

120mph is not a far cry at all. i've done it with no issues on a good running 12A. however, i would say more like 110-115mph is more realistic on a stock GSL.

I don't know what's going on with the forum but this thread popped up like it was a new one, I didn't go looking for it. Didn't even look at the post dates.

With my first FB in Germany (Elford turbo model) I saw 240+KM (pegged speedo) but the nose got really light even with the ground effects nose and rear wing. Scared the crap out of me.

The rx7 i havent tried yet. I just got it. Besides the tires may explode. They are dry rotted.

But i have been

192 mph on my Bike (Started getting a little light)
176 mph in the Merc (Ran out of Road)
155 mph in the Jag (Passengers got Yancy)
144 in the Rover (Thats all it would do)
147 in the F350 (thats all it would do)

I will post the mazda's speed as soon as i get it safe enough to try it.
