I really enjoy reading the post from others who seem to know what they are doing.. I bought a turbo engine on ebay last week due to the members on this board talking about it.. ( 4-6 weeks till i get it back from GTGarage after i drop it off at end of month!!!)

I'm just a n00b who's starting to get a grip on how rotaries work and how to work on them.

Keep in mind I’m a chic: So far in the driveway I’ve changed out the drive shaft, shocks, fluid in trans & rear end, plugs, steering wheel, wheels-wheels. Also re-upholstered the interior, machine sanded exterior to metal & fabricated dash parts from wood. Never had the pleasure to assist in an engine rebuild but would seriously love to. On a scale, I think I’m at least a 2.

LoL.

I am a mechanic of all kinds of background and I am only 19. I learn a lot everyday and love to share my knowledge about stuff. I can rewire a whole car, socket ecus, make junk ecus into gold, motor swaps.. blah, blah blah. work on civics, dsms, rx7s, 240s.. and all the like.

Throw a V8 in front of me and uh.. well... I could do it ... but would rather cut it in half and use just 4.

I am also a tuner in my local area. I tune an 11 sec drag civic on the stock block, turboed of course. And many other local cars that are pretty quick. I like doing it because every car is a different challenge. Wideband/laptop/emulator equipped all the time. Ready for just about anything.

I am just someone who doesn't mind asking someone else about a mechanical problem that they screwed up a half dozen times tryng to work it out. Best knowledge is gained through other people's experience and mistakes. Good rule of thumb, remain humble and always willing to listen. You always learn more by lsitening than talking.

I'm not a pro pro ... but i do know quite a few things, changing suspensions, fabricating parts (thanks to my shop classes ), installed radiators, (need to learn oil coolers) changed fuel lines and most fuel related items, i ripped one whole rx-7 apart to bare metal (had a V8 engine but i swear i didn't put it in there, it was previous owner. So i would know how to take most things out (inside out, easy way and hard way... lots of experience getting off rusted bolts) over all i would consider myself maybe a 5/10, i haven't taken apart the engine but that will probabaly happen in a month or so, taking it to school and cleaning it all out and will prob port it there too.

(For all you other teenagers there, learn from this, make your teachers friends like that you'll be able to go in and use their stuff up till now i have all kinds of mechanics tools, welding tools, machining tools, and wood working tools because of my doing that) And no i'm not a NERD !!!

well seeing as I've worked on cars for a living for over 20 years I dunno if I should respond but I will:
on trannys and diffs (my field of expertise) 10 out of 10
carbs 9 of 10
piston engines 9 of 10
rotary engines (been working on them for more than 15 years) 9 of 10
electrical (I also rebuild ECU's) 9 of 10

overall I'd say a 9.5 of 10

Sorry, that averages out to 9.2. Looks like you need to learn the mechanics of mathematics.

just flat out wild. Id say 15-30k. now the cap and rotor every 15-20k.
I never had a fuel filter that didn't start to restrict flow after 8-9k. First clue is the car falls on its face on a WOT run on the 2-3 shift. That, or the car cannot maintain 85-90mph for more than a couple seconds. Another 2k and the car wouldn't even be able to maintain 60mph.

Likewise, you should've seen how quickly my cars would eat spark plugs. (I prefer the BR8ET's for fouling resistance, or modified Autolite 3923's for use with an MSD) After 3k the center electrodes on the leading plugs would be rotor-shaped. I used to replace all four plugs every 3k, but after a while I got sick of $16 a month just for spark plugs, so I'd rotate the leadings to the trailing side and put the fresh plugs in the leading holes.

The four electrode plugs seem insensitive to wear, mainly because they suck even when new.

fuel filter

Pee ajy, remember you are in Cleveland, you guys have real fuel. In Ca we have 1400 additives in the fuel system, kind of like twinkies, the gas has a shelf life of about 1000 years and actually regrows the filter element,LOL. You guys also get better mileage than our enviromentally fuel, about 2-7 mpg depending on what you are driving. Remember using a msd ignition or any modified ignition system
is going to give a more complete burn but wear those plugs. Also when it comes to filter capacity it depends on what brand of filter you are using, if you are using the
$2.00 special versus the factory fuel filter or a quality filter such as bosch the media in the filter will hold more debri without causing a reduction in flow. For normal driving conditions the recommended schedules are very adequate. As in any modification the demand is always higher opn the components. rx7doctor

and all the fuel lines are straight from the pump, which is new, to the filter, which just drops trash to the bottom, to the carb, which sprays good...
