rarest and hottest wheels for 1st gen
BBS RS 16x8.5 on 205/40/16 (2.5" lips) and 16x10 on 245/40/16 (3.5 inch lips.) Will roll the rear fenders slightly. Front wheels fit perfectly. Yea I know what you guys are thinking. Until now, I'm still in shock as to how the heck those wheels fit my little FB. Will post more pics when the car is completed.

I was going to wait until I got the car sitting properly but I might as well share now. BBS RS 5x114.3, 16x7.5/16x8.5 +14 all around. I got them HEAVILY used from VRwheels.com. Maybe paid a bit more than they were worth given the amount of work they needed but cheaper than a new set. Lips were hand sanded and polished by me, about 35-40 hours of work then I reassembled them with black bolts after having them powdercoated by Sam at RE-Speed. Color is Prismatic Powders Bullseye, inner barrels are just black. They are on the car now but it's not done yet and is sitting about 3 inches too high, so it looks silly.

Hey brother... believe it or not, no one and not even Juni believed those BBS wheels, especially the rear wheels 16x10 would fit on FB. The front wheels don't rub at all, however the rear might need some fender rolling action. Just a tiny bit though. My car should be done soon. will send it out to paint next week or so. Peace out.

@ Orion.. Are those BBS for FB...??? I too bought my wheels from Jack at VR Motoring. OMG.. You got lots of parience along with time. I just bought (4) new lips and took the center piece to a local powder coating place. $100 for all 4.. Good deal HUH.. I bought big brake kits, axles, the complete Energy Power bushing kit and rear coilover kits from Jack at RE Speed. Hey why don't you install the coilovers (Ground Control and Tokico Illumina adjustable shock) like mine. From you seeing on my FB, I still can lower it for another 3". Hmmmm I'm wondering what color is your car.. I think I'm way too old for those flashy color.. Peace Out..

Hey Ben.. My car is just a regular 1985 Mazda RX-7 GS. The car has been with me nearly 20 years. I started a major overhauling a year ago. I started with 13B Bridgeport with Holly Carb. To my surprise, after driving it home from the shop, I found that it was super slow. So I took the car back and changed the set up to a turbo intercooler. You guess it correctly, with the turbo set up, it forced me to change everything. a big disc brake, new axles, a coliover suspension on all 4 corners. Yep I changed the bolt pattern from 4x110 to 5x114.3. Those BBS fit perfectly.. HELLAFLUSH BABY. Peace Out

And yea, most peeps who try to run a decent Bridge on the street are usually disappointed. The Bridge needs a pretty open exhaust (loud) to make decent power, but more importantly, nice steep gears in the diff and if possible good close ratios in the tranny.
I am going to start re-doing my FB also... also had for 20 years or so!

Hey Ben.. To be completely honest with you, if I have known first hand the amount of money I spent on this project, I would have left it alone. It was like a thousand here and a thousand there. By the time I realized, it was too late. I have changed every part you could imagine in that car. I hang out in Azusa and Covina area. If you live close by, you are more than welcome to check it out. It should be completed in 2 weeks or so. Paint job is next. Peace Out

Hey you know Juni too..?? Juni is still working on it as we are speaking. He is a good dude and very neat on any modification. I see him everyday when I work except on my days off. Do you live in that area as well...???? BTW.. I too have been fixing cars (Mazda, Toyota and Nissan) since the early 80's. I'm doing the math and it means we must be in the same age.. Old Fart...

I definitely will hook you up. I need more info as to the size and off set. I got a very good deal on BBS RS wheels including the replacement lips. As I stated earlier, I paid $100 for power coating the center piece. I will get your phone # from Juni and we can discuss about it.. Peace Out brother

I'm running pretty much the same as 85 FB Turbo. RE-Speed coilovers all around with Tokico Illumina's, RE-Speed TII big brake kit so a 5x114.3 bolt pattern. The brakes really fill the wheels nicely too. My tires are Yokohama S.Drive 215/40/16 rear and 195/40/16 front. I wanted to make sure there was a touch of stretch so I didn't run into the fender rubbing issues I had with the Hankook 225/45/15's. The S.drives in those sizes are actually a shorter diameter too.
85 FB Turbo: I do have a lot of patience although at times it did wear thin. Time, well I made the time. Took me 4 months from start to finish. There were a few weeks where I just didn't want to touch them, then I'd get back into the swing of it and knock out a few hours a night. The oxidation and curb rash was so bad I had considered just buying new lips, but I figured I wouldn't lose much other than time and a few bucks for sandpaper if I tried to refinish them first. May go wider with flares in the rear eventually so The rear lips will get moved to the front and the rears will get wider lips.

@Twinkle.. Sorry I took so long to get back to you.. 245/40/16 I ordered from NY was discontinued. I just got am email from the company.. I'm running 225/40/16 for now.. After putting on the rear wheels, I found that they stick out about an inch and one half due to replacing new axles & rear end. I decided to change the new look by putting 240ZG flares on all 4 fenders. All I can say is the car looks super mean & fat. With the coilover, I'm able to lower the car so that the fenders sitting right on the rims. Will post pics soon. Peace out brother..

Here are mines.
Recently professionaly polished in 2010.
These are original 2-piece 15" Compomotive FH500 rims from 1981.
They have been under the car since new as the first owner confirmed.
It has been mine for over 19 years now and she still looks pretty...
No need to say I'm feeling very lucky!!!
