Proud new owner of the nicest original 1985 GSL left? Really you tell me
I just bought today a 1985 GSL with 12,500 original miles!!!! Yes, that's right. An old lady from my town bought it new and stored it for the last 15 years. I believe it is 100% original. If you guys see something wrong, let me know. This is my first rotary purchase and initially I couldn't be happier. IT IS AMAZING. I'll add pics, more to come.

nice score! - Hope you can resist the temptation to just fire her up and drive.
Be aware a car that has sat that long (unless correctly stored, something most people have NO clue about) will have some serious service "issues". As in- replace every rubber hose on the car (coolant/fuel). And all fluids, needless to say
Hopefully no interior rust corrosion/damage in brake/clutch components - brake fluid is a notorious water attacter = decay where you can't see it . Dump any old fuel (has a drain in the tank), replace the fuel filter.
Likewise 15+ year old tires will be a real health hazard to you and your new ride.
Seafoaming the engine might mitigate decade+ of old oil/gas sitting inside and converting to sludgy who-knows-what.
Don't want to pee on your parade - but we all realize "just 12,000 miles" and "stored 15 years" do NOT go well together in the same sentence.
The old girl is overdue some Love and she will reward you for your troubles.
Welcome and Enjoy!! Rare treat.

7 aull thanks for the great list of things to do. I was planning on getting all the liquids replaced. Didn't really think about the hoses. Also, I'm in Wyoming so there is not a lot of moisture (technically most of the state qualifies as a desert). As far as what I paid for it, not as much as it is probably worth -- but more than most original used rx7s go for.

well i can tell you that you get the 7 that lives in many enthusiest's dreams as a unicorn! that car is so original it's rolling on the ORIGINAL tires!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that car has three mazda finishline parts as well! you have the louvers, teh side skirts, and the ULTRA rare "RX-7" finishing panel between the tail lights!
my only concern is the sticker on the passenger side door panel. i'd cover that car in my garage and temperature regulate the garage. that is a true find of a lifetime! well done!!!
i had a similar car a couple years back, but mine had 55K miles. yours is far nicer, trust me. here's mine:

you don't butcher a 12K mile FB...thats just wrong on so many levels. has nothing to do with being young. i know a lot of young guys that are enthusiests that appreciate cars on a true enthusiests level. no need to hack or butcher or modify a car to appreciate it.

Hey JoLo, spectacular find and yes that car should make you a very happy rotor head for many years to come if you are half as good an owner as that car is an example of rotary excellence.
Nice find, and welcome to the community!
Now let's get to your question:
"Proud new owner of the nicest original 1985 GSL left? Really you tell me"
Nice car, but nicest? Sorry, not even close. There are a hundred 1985 GSL owners on this forum with nicer cars - let's start with mine, the Silver One:

Nicer because she's got character, she gets me to work and back every day, 110 miles round trip, she gives me practically no trouble and she's beautiful, even has the full red leather interior in excellent shape (which I agree, is the best you can find in an '85 GSL):
So no, sorry JoLo, nice car but us rotary heads are kind of passionate about our SA's, FB's and SE's. Chances are most of the rotor heads you ask will say "Nice Car, but not as nice as mine!!"
Again welcome to the club! This is a great place for all kinds of questions, practical, technical and philosophical. And the advice is of the highest quality, check out Stu's post above (7aull) for example.
And then there's this guy wacky, you're going to LOVE him!

Nice score!!!!
If it were my car i would try and keep the miles as low as possible. We took our Mazda out of my grandmas basement 2 years ago when the odometer read 7k miles. Time flew by and two years later the car has 25k miles.
Miles go by fast when you're having fun

very nice find! although as a lot of bragging is going on, i feel obliged to mention my 1980 leather sport with 26000 miles i bought from an older gentlemen. do please take stu's advice, get it serviced right away. while it only has 26000 miles, the original 12a in my car is shot. the old guy flogged it, blew a seal in the rear chamber, and drove it with no oil, doing god knows what else to the internals. i wish you good luck, and have fun!
