since its a latch type and the pic of your car looks like an FB, i would say that your sunroof is an aftermarket type.

If it's the type I'm thinking it is, I think they may be dealer-installed. I had one on my old '81 S and I've seen the same style on a few others, but it's not factory.

WAS:12A, thats true, however the FB had a rotary type **** that would raise and lower the sunroof, not a latch as the original poster had described his car having.

as a note, the ONLY 1st gen 7 to come with the latch type for the sunroof was in model year 1979. in 1980, mazda switched to the design using the rotary **** on all oem equipped sunroof models until 1985.

that would be most helpful. this way we can better assess the situation and see what you're looking at. this will help us give you some ideas on how to go about fixing the metal parts that are broken.

, sorry i'm no help

but this thread just got real funny with all the comments about how to post a pic with it now in your sig under them all.

its hard to tell if its like the '79 latch . the '79 has a horizontal pin in the latch that goes into a small bracket on the roof with two (female) openings on each end for the pin to slide into to remove the roof. A clamp on the latch snugs the pin in place to just raise the roof .

that's not from a '79 or north american rx7 that I know of. It's aftermarket which means few people, if any, will have one to show you.
I can give you pics of a '79 latch, but it probably wont help you.
