The only FB in Oklahoma (I'm new)
Ok, I'm sure I'm not the only FB owner in Oklahoma, but I have yet to see anyone else with one. But really I guess that's what this forum is about.
Anyway, a little about myself: I go by Jaysef these days on the internet. I am about to be a senior in college and I study graphic design. I live in Edmond where I often count the number of Mustangs I see in one drive around town (its appalling), see if I'm turning any heads, and look for other RX-7's.
I bought my little '83 over Christmas after blowing out the engine in the Geo Prizm I used to own. The 7 cost me $800 and came with all sorts of quirks:
-The rear suspension was swapped for an LSD (yay)
-The front suspension was missing a bushing, causing a nasty knocking sound (fixed)
-Has an RX-3 Carb (which I must replace! )
-Has numerous small dents as well as a very large one where the door and quarter panel meet. When I bought it, it used to pop when the door was opened.
-The front panel and a headlight housing have been replaced. I can tell because they are a more faded red.
-Half of the moldings are missing
-Interior is a wreck. Ripped seats, broken center console, warped headliner, and I swear there is not a single screw left holding the panels in. Dash is good though.
-Half the paint on the sunroof is gone. There is also a remnant of a Texas State logo on it.
-Radio is new, but has no constant source of power so it thinks it has been freshly installed every time I start the car. I hate this aspect the most because the settings are reset every time. Of course, I also have no clue how to fix it.
-Clearcoat is half faded
-And best of all, the car was originally Canadian, meaning everything is metric including the speedo and odometer.
Despite its shortcomings and weirdness, it has been very reliable and popular. It does need some coaxing to start on cold days and needs more coaxing to stay idling on any day (until the engine is warm that is). I'm fairly certain the RX-3 carb is the source of the latter problem, but I'm not sure. I still have a lot to learn about engines in general.
Unfortunately I have no pics. I haven't had the time to take any and the weather has been bum anyway.
Whew. I think that's all I have. I look forward to finally discussing these cars with other people.

Welcome to the forum! First off, I would recommend downloading a copy of the appropriate FSM located in the link in my sig. It will come in handy at some point.
Next is to read through the faqs (or glance thru) some good info there.
Cool, a canadian model. Great cars, and a dying breed. Should get some pics up, and be sure to register your VIN in the thread in the non-tech section. You can also browse through that thread and see if there are any other first genners in ur area.

You certainly aren't the only FB owner in Oklahoma. I could list at least 6 others that I regularly meet up with. Some aren't on this forum, while others are. Heck, I'm not on here full-time.
For what it's worth, I own a pair of '83's myself. A stock GSL, and modded GS(+L). My favorite is the Red GS. I use it as a daily driver/track car/autox toy. http://s252.photobucket.com/albums/h...ff918/?start=0
The white GSL needs a little TLC, but will likely remain stock aside from a couple minor updates to improve what Mazda messed up. (Beehive and wire fuse links) It *may* recieve aftermarket wheels, since the 13" offerings are getting scarce.

Cheer! I knew it!
Thanks for the tips! I have been skimming the FAQs and finding useful info here and there. Also I think I see the sun today. Pics maybe?

Nice! Definitely fixable
The bump strips all around the body could either come off, or you could repaint them black... my car doesn't have them, and my mate repainted his - both ways looks nice (although having them is kinda useful if people open doors into your car.. i kinda miss that)
With the radio problem, the stereo will have a wire somewhere that expects power all the time. You should be able to find a wire near the fuse box that always has power and then run a link over... you may also find one just behind the stereo.. could have fallen off Depending how dodgy you want to be.... you could just run it from the cigarette lighter plug.. (test if that is on when the ignition is off first... it is on mine, but could have been rewired).
Good luck, looks like you'll have a lot of fun with this

Round and Round
iTrader: (10)
Should be a single connector J-05 Blue w yellow stripe wire behind the radio that has constant 12V. There is also a 6 pin stereo plug J-04. Only four terminals are used. Blue/yellow wire is constant 12V, Blue/white is switched 12V from the ignition switch, Red/green is from the light switch for illumination lights and Blue comes from the third stereo plug. Third stereo plug J-05 is 3 pin with Blue wire from 2nd stereo plug, Blue/green for power antenna trigger, and red/green from light switch for illumination lights.
The stock power antenna is triggered when Blue/green wire is grounded. Most head units and antennas expect the trigger to be a positive signal. If the stock wiring is changed it can be made to work.
