ok pick this one apart!

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/cto/3016056901.html

he's asking too much i think, well for me to buy it.

"Hello everybody, today I am selling my very loved 1982 blue Mazda Rx7. Does not smoke and runs efficiently. 650-224-0912

Body is PERFECT, not a single dent or scratch in the paint. Showroom condition. I repeat, never been repainted.
Clean Title, never been in an accident.

Runs amazing

Paint is all original and looks new!

Interior is ok but could use some work like headliner and needs a radio. The exterior is missing a few emblems like the front and the one by the passenger fender.
It is all stock, has good power and shifts smoothly through all gears. Clutch is good engine just got a tune up. Wheels are all original and are in excellent shape.
Please call for more details and specify what you are calling for. Thanks. Call Gabe at 650-224-0912. Here are some pictures:

Can't see that being original paint; odds against getting all the trim off without munging the paint is pretty slim... and all the missing badges (all but one gone!)/trim/window triangles/antenna/wipers/washer squirter/hatch lock cries out 'repaint!' to me.

As does the apparently-peeling grille, which isn't painted on an original car. Looks to be some overspray on the lower valence, too... and the center lower is white? or is that a reflection? Replaced lower front-end?

Front bumper is misaligned.

Rear tow hook is the wrong color?

Are the rear side markers on an FB supposed to be amber?

Exhaust has been replaced & is non-stock, which being as he's located in SF is probably why he's trying to sell - - smog issues.

One hell of a lot of salt corrosion in the engine bay for the outside to be 'original', too.

No plates.

Far from showroom condition.

Since he seems to be uh, 'at variance with apparent facts' regarding the paint, I'm guessing the 'never been in an accident' part may be subject to interpretation, too.

i agree, it actually looks like it just got painted, which is odd, why wouldn't you say new paint if its new paint?

judging by the angle of the bumper and header panel, i think it had a fender bender on the right front at some point. paint actually looks faded or just blue instead of metallic blue. peepers is the same color under the hood, and its more metallic?

Its an Earl Shibe job if I ever saw one. The missing emblems and the missing
WIPERS and ANTENNA are a clue. Also theres overspray on the hatch hinge which
cinched it for being a respray. Also some of the molding on the bumpers shows
overspray where the paint bled under the tape. Also FBs always have the wide
molding, so I think his story is full of holes. I like DD analysis on the exhaust and
SF locale. Kalifornia sux!

He's lying through his teeth on the repaint. I'd start at $900.00 for buying it.

Needs:

wipers
antenna
radio
rear hatch lock
lots of interior love
and obvioulsy mechanicals.

Because if he's lying about the paint then he's also lying about how it runs

Agreed, when you don't trust what you do see, the things you don't see should scare you even more. It always amazes me how terms like original, new and restoration have so many different intrepretations.

Maybe "original" means, "It had it when I bought it"!!!

I thought that light blue color was supposed to be metallic for the FBs? All the ones I have seen sure looked like they were a metallic paint. That paint looks like crap. I don't see any way that is possibly the original paint. Cars with ratted out interiors like that don't have paint that good.

i could spend all day picking this one apart... by showroom condition does he mean that the shitty single tip muffler was stock. yeah well... NO! by showroom condition does he mean that the car came from the factory with no wipers or moldings.. oh and the socket stuck over the bleeder on the clutch slave cylinder was definatly there from the factory, lol. oh and the seats are original to *rolls eyes*. not even the correct material or color. with that said RUN away from this one!

Earl Shibe would just paint over everything...nevermind removed the moldings or emblems

DD, yeah those rear marker lights aren't supposed to be amber on FB's. Those should be red. It looks like the rear drivers side one is red, but the other isn't - bad angle, can't tell.

I can see flecks of paint on the hatch hinges as well, definitely a respray. What's up with the hatch key hole?? And look at the different color between the engine bay walls and the body!

OMG we just had the race car painted at Maaco (you paint the race for $300, cause it hits things...) and they got over spray EVERYWHERE! there is an AN fitting on the back of the engine, that has white paint on it...
