non-flip up headlights???

ok, so i tried searching a few key words. however, i really don't know what to type in, also it would help if i knew what these are called. basically i'm looking for the headlights that replace the pop ups. they sit flush inside the headlight housing.

^^^ this is what i'm looking for. do they have a name? is it a certain style? and can it still be obtained???

there are no kits to do it anymoe. you have to do something custom. For example I ordered a set of flush mounts for the third gen and will be molding them to fit the SA. I alos pulled the fog lights out to fit some real HID projectors in there.

^That is correct. In the First Gen Group Buy section some people have been posting about this also. But that pic you put up is one BAD *** car, I would love to get mine to look like that!

ok, so is it as ready as it looks? Take off metal flip up cover, replace with lexan/plastic clear cover, and then find a way to turn the actual headlight upward, then in plug flip up motors. It always sounds easier...

basically that's about all of it, and yes it always sounds easy until you dig into it and find that making it look good is a completely different story.

mainly it just wouldn't look right unless you start modifying the body to suit the new look of the lights. doing it on a completely stock-ish body car it would look out of place. the widebody and flat front end of that example compliment the lights. the hood is "ugh" though.

Sounds easy and looks ugly. Don't do it. The SA/FB is meant to have that clean front end, like nothing else on the road. Don't mess it up.

I currently have a metal bar that I can just manually lift them up and drop them. It is the exact setup that re-speed used to sell. If I cant get the FD ones to look right I will keep the current setup. it weighs a ton less this way and isnt hard to switch from day to night or night to day

well if you want you can pm me asking for the parts numbers of the old respeed kit that is no longer offered. like I said it keeps the stock lights but will no longer have the motors or levers. it saves a good amount of weight as well as holds them in place either down or up.

I have to sort of agree with Karack, the reason it works is because of the widebody. Personally I would keep the flip up lights, but I think they're quite cool. It makes me sad that no cars (that I can think off of the top of my head right now) come with air-brakes - I mean flip-up headlights. Even the Corvette which had them for 41 years sent them the way of the Dodo, with the current generation.

because flip ups were deemed unsafe in crash tests beyond the mid '90's generations. i suppose their thinking was it creates more flying shrapnel to impale someone with.

No! It was deamed unsafe for padestrians if they happen to get hit. The same thing for mirrors. After a certain year mirrors had o be foldable. it is the fault of lobiests in Washington. They petitioned it

They also cause areo drag on a car and reduce mpg when flipped up in the on position. And the CP light kit was kind of cool I had one but didn't install it on my SA because you had to cutup the header panel that the head light wires and linkage went thru to make room for the lights being set back farther.
