nice ebay FB, '83 LE S model

Check it out!!

Strong bidding from onset so final price is likely to be much higher. Only thing sad is that car was likely not owned by a true enthusiast given the low mileage and will be owned by a collector/investor/speculator who will dare not drive it for fear of diminishing its value. A true car lover would drive it - that's what it's made for!

36k miles, i wouldn't drive it either, i would hope it would be taken by some one for enjoyments or anything other then sitting in a garage never to be seen or thought of. i know a guy that has 32 cars but has a small private museum/ garage and it would be a perfect place for this timeless car to remain the way it is.... he drives all of the 32 cars for about 10 miles once every couple of months

if you want a low mileage driver to DRIVE i would try to get a 70-105k mile that is original and complete and i wouldnt pay more then 4-5k for it. i've got a 94k mile GSL for sale soon...

paying 8-10k for one with 40k miles isn't monetarily wise if you plan to drive it. going from 40k miles to 80k miles cuts the value in half. but taking a 4k 100k mile FB and driving to 140k miles isnt going to drop the value by more then 1000.

that's simply a collectors car now.

wow that is really nice. i had an LE for a while, and it wasn't nearly that nice, but it was so perfect. all the controls were evenly matched, and felt nice and light, the dash just looks classic sports car, the outside looks great, what else do you want?

That's super nice! I'd love to have an extremely low mileage first gen in the garage someday - for a collector car.

Wait, so the limited edition didn't come with leather seats, rear wiper, or power windows? I had an '83 GSL through the '90s and I always thought the LE was identical plus headlight washers and electronic suspension. Being a NYS car it rusted out and barely survived the trip to NC.

On that note, I think the car is overpriced. While it is in nice shape, it isn't the fully loaded model and it is a NY car where salt is used on the roads. There is no telling what is behind the rear glove boxes where they start rusting.

My current '83 GS looks that nice from 25' away and still has under 92k original miles and I had a classic car appraiser tell me to wait a few years before paying for a professional appraisal.

I doubt this car saw much winter time use regardless of what region it is from. ebay is a good way for dealers to advertise across the nation or even world. A smart buyer would go and inspect the car before making the purchase. The only way to know the cars true condition. I agree, it is pushing the price enevlope of what is currently considered normal. As time goes on, and trends come into and out of style, values will fluctuate for all vehicles. The overall trend however is that normally, values rise over time, especially for prime, unmolested low mile examples.

Enthusiasts buy out of passion (lust) and dealers like this one, play off those emotions to make a buck in the whole process. I have an official appraisal on a couple of my Rx-7s, mostly just to help justify my agreed value type of insurance policies. Not a bad thing for vehicles in simillar condition to the one in this ad.

Did your insurance company suggest an appraiser or did they tell you what certificates the appraiser had to hold in order for it to be considered official value or did you go with specialty insurance?

If you don't mind, what did you pay for an official appraisal?

I had an appraiser tell me by phone last or the year before not to bother paying for the appraisal until the cars started selling in the $10k+ range. He basically said keep all of your receipts and good photos for now.

I have my house and vehicle insurance through an independant agent who shops from a list of companies. I already had my apprasials done, so I can't say if it was required or would have been asked for. I approached it as having documentation in hand to support the values I was after. The appraiser I used does it as a side business and charged me $40 apiece.

To me, apprasials are kind of a scam. Like a house apprasial, they can be written up to be average, good or exceptionally great. The actual value of things like collecter cars and real estate is a compromise btw what someone is willing to pay vs. what you are willing to sell it for. The whole thing being driven by what other, comparable items are normally changing hands for.

The appraser you spoke makes a certain amount of sence when referencing the $10,000. range. There are a few cars selling for that now. The question is, is that what yours would sell for? An honest apprasier, keeps you honest and probablly wouldn't be in business for a long time if they didn't. But there are a lot of cars out there that are worth more than the book value or what the insurance company would give you, but still less than $10K. How do you protect these vehicles? I guess you either insure them for either the minimum (normal policy) or go for an agreed value type of policy, which may come with some additional costs, like periodical apprasials and milege limitations.
