Wow, so I've been reading a bunch of posts on this forum for the last few weeks in anticipation of buying my own RX-7. Then I finally did it the other day. I got an 82 with 117k on it for 200 bucks. It's got some electrical issues, but the engine and tranny are strong. The only problem is that it's an automatic. It hauls ***, but's super slow off the line. Still, for the price I couldn't pass it up. Anyhow, after driving my first 7, I'm pretty sure it won't be the last, so a 5 speed can be my next buy. Well, thanks for all the helpful posts. I'm going to dig in this weekend, so maybe I'll have some questions of my own soon. I know most of you have manuals, but if anyone has any simple tricks for increasing power off the line in an auto I'd be happy to hear any suggestions (even though this isn't the tech section).

great, thanks for the links. I'm sure the service manual will come in handy. I'll have to wait for a sunny day to get my avatar updated with a car pic.

Welcome indeed. Like mazdaverx713b said, you can do the 5-speed swap relatively easy. You can do some reading on it and see if it's something you might want to do. You could do it as you are sorting out the electrical issues. Post some pics up and welcome again!
