New Gauge Faces for Stormy!

Hey guys...it's been a long time since I've posted but thought I'd show you what I've been working on lately. I'm designing new gauge faces for my Stormy Blue Mica '85 GS. I've been trying to convert all the dash lights to blue. That coupled with the fact that the Momo steering wheel covers the speedometer from 45mph on up, and the tach from about 2000 on up, made me decide to try my hand at making new gauge faces. I rotated the speedometer so now I should be able to see from 0 through about 80, and the tach so I'll be able to read from 0 through about 7500. I've come up with several new color schemes and posted them up here:

http://picasaweb.google.com/rdfrahm/...NewGaugeFaces#

I my favorite so far is the light blue on black. The font is the same font Mazda uses - SF Automation.

I should be ready to try my hand at cutting them out and gluing up some samples sometime in the next week or two, so hopefully I'll be able to post up some finished faces shortly.

Curious on how you're going to make these..

They look like my Cobalt Gauges.

I've been using this site for guidance:

http://www.revlimiter.net/mods/gauges.php

My son-in-law works at a CopyWorks so he's doing the printing for me. I'm doing all the design work in Inkscape - it's freeware and is supposed to be similar to Adobe Illustrator. And then I'm using Gimp (more freeware) to do all the coloring.

Yea, I've considered that...or maybe making it smaller in all but one.

Here's a new scheme I came up with. I was looking for something to give them a carbon fiber look. Not sure if I like this one or not. I'm going to tinker with making the pattern larger and blacker and see what that looks like.

OK...here they are a little darker and with a slightly larger pattern. I like these better, but still not sure if I like them as much as the all black background.

I like the plain black face personaly. The CF mike look a little cheezy if you don't have other CF on the interior.

Hey Directfreak! What A-pillar pod are you using in your photo?

It's a custom 3 Gauge fiberglass one I had made a few years back.

I will probably eliminate it altogether in the future, when I move all gauges to the center panel.
I want a more stealth install in the future, so that other drivers next to me don't
have a clue about the turbocharger.

I love what you're doing 64mgb, have you got any pics and tips for the process so far?

I plan to do mine over the winter.

No, I'm afraid not, and I don't want to take the gauges out of my SA to do them. But if someone would like to send me a set I'd be happy to make the template drawings.

With this being my first set I really don't have any tips to offer, other than to be ready to spend ALOT of time on them. Fortunately I retired last spring so I have all the time in the world. I'm finally getting around to trying to glue up my first trial faces. I'll post up some pics when I have something worth looking at.

By the way, I posted this earlier, but this is the site I am using for reference:
