ON New to the forum and to the RX7

Long story short I've been a Toyota guy for years and then decided to go car free for a while. Now through some bartering and trading a friend of mine surprised me with a 1985 RX7.

It has disc brakes all around, a hardcore locking LSD and says GSL-SE on the back but it's rocking the 12A so it's definately not what it appears to be, I'm not complaining...FREE CAR

Needs a tune up and will probably need a rebuild sooner rather than later considering I want to slide it but for now it runs and drives strong.

Great site, I've already learned a lot lurking on here.

Well, I'll start reading the links in your sig approximately 8 posts from now. I'll be getting some pictures over the weekend and I'm going to jump in and see what she has and what she is going to need.

It seems to run strong but it is burning some oil. The drivers seat is destroyed so as much as it might clash I think I'll be putting in the blue Sparco Sprint I have, at least for now.

It's in my buddies garage so I just can' t wait to get off work and see her again.

Not to double post, but the fact that R.P.M. motorsports is five minutes from my house may help the progression.

So I took some pictures and got the VIN, though I'm not sure what to look for to tell if it was originally a gsl-se (which I doubt).

I also have a box with the stock stereo. Clarion...with amps? Pretty classy

That is NOT an SE. The wheels on your car are a different bolt pattern than the GSL-SE. I would guess someone just put the badge on there. That would make your car a GSL. I suggest changing your brake and clutch fluid. They both look pretty nasty. Watch for sludge in the bottom of the resevoir on the clutch master cylinder. I had this problem and cleaning out the resevoir did nothing to help, so I'm betting it's in the lines and clutch slave as well.

Thanks for that. I didn't have a lot of time over the weekend so hopefully I can really get started with the basics (fluids etc.) So far all it's recieved is a new air filter since plugs and such seem hard to find around here.

Yeah to add to the oil thing, rotaries have an oil injection system called the oil metering pump(OMP) that injects oil into the carburetor to help lubricate the apex and side seals inside the motor

Your Welcome James.

We'll get the sprint seat in there very soon. I'm just happy it has an air filter that doesn't look like my mother's cigarette butts!

I found the car for James (abominus) as a gift, I did a truck concept a while ago and I'm pressuring him to let me make it a reality.
