New to Forum

Hello all. I am new to the forum. I am currently the proud owner of a 79 RX-7 that I picked up for $600 it was smoking but after driving it around awhile it cleared up. So far I put in a clutch and done a tune up. It runs like a champ! Here is the only pic I have of it mixed in with my other two cars( I love my Mitsu's and the RX-7 is the mistress) , I was putting in the clutch at the time.

The build date is 9/78, paint code RH and other than a crappy shift **** that the previous owner put in she is completely stock down to the factory Clarion 8 track. Here are some pix I took today with my cell phone. Sorry if they are too big.

The wheels are actually the later '81-'85 style, and that wing isn't stock, either.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't the 78's have a two spoke steering wheel, not a 4?

Not to bash too much but that car is far from stock. The wheels, the spoiler, the black bumpers, the shiney window trim. Haven't seen the interior yet, we need more pics

Looks like a solid car for the price. Except for the rear spoiler getting it back to stock would be fairly easy. Hope you have a lot of fun with it. More pics

Okay maybe she isnt "completely" Stock I should have said "mostly" stock. I did know about the wheels and the spoiler not being original but the bumpers and the window trim? So did this car come with steelies from the factory? I'm gonna go do some searchin! I'll take some more pics Friday afternoon after work and post em thanks for the input guys.

Grats on a great find - - solid foundation for a sweet ride.

Biggest mistake I ever made regarding my -7; within the wife's earshot, I once referred to a project on the car as "spending money on my twenty-something Japanese girlfriend."

HUGE mistake. Huge.

A good looking 7 for $600. Post interior shots when you can. With a good paint job you'll be turning heads all over the place.

Thanks for the comments, I love the waffle rims and personally think that those wheels will look better on the car. I just gotta find em. The stereo isn't for sale (sorry) I want to keep this car as close to original as possible with minor upgrades. I have even thought about going to the GoodWill to pick up some 8 tracks and see if the thing works. Once I get the A/C working I am planning on working on the exterior and then the interior. Here are some more pics.

Odometer Rolled over about 2 weeks ago

Dirty interior, dash is covered due to the severely damaged dash. The passenger seat just has the one tear but the driver seat is in desperate need of repair.

I def want to restore her to her former glory, what do you guys think about the wing, seems like its just bondoed or fiber glassed on. I kinda like the look and am thinking about leaving it. Really all I want is to get her looking new again and up the hp (20/30+) thats it. I will be happy. She is a sweet ride and I must say one of my favorites to drive. I drive it more than my evo!

It's always amazed me how many of the OEM analog clocks in the -7's still work. American cars of the same era were imfamous for the clock barely outlasting the warranty.

That is the hood prop, all early SA's had it on the right side.

My '80's body is punched & inserted for both sides, but the prop has always been on the left since I've had it...

Now I'm all paranoid that it's been on the wrong side all these years...

Left side is more convenient, IMO. Faster for oil checks.

80's is not an early body. The 78's were the early models.
