HAve you asked all the business' all around the area to see if they saw anything/have cameras.
Also, how many people know your car? was it popular (my 93' F-150 is known by everybody within 50 miles of my place, its unique).
When looking in local neighborhoods, look for things out of the normal.
T.J. how far from your house was your car when you finally located it? Might give him an idea.
Now that I've seen two of these posts, when I get my 7 on the road, the first purchase is an anti theft system. Something LOUD!!
Good luck.

Yeah, I forgot I had made fliers and hung them on EVERY mail box in the neighborhood too. My Dad is a printer, so I got em made for free, lol
Also, I found the car close to where it was stolen at a house, not near where I live. I talked to the people who saw the people messing with it, and they said the guys left and came back multiple times for tools. They gave me a time, saying it took a certain amount of time for them to leave and come back, so I just drove from where the car was stolen from for half the time they said it took on different routes, and that gave me a "canvas" to work with. Then I put fliers all around that neighborhood, and the surrounding ones. Eventually I started just walking around and checking peoples yards ("from the street") and found it.

I don't know what, if any law there is like that in Australia. I have never been there let alone study what type of laws pertain to towing cars. Then again if it was a illegitimate towing company who's to say they would follow such a law if it exists anyways. No matter what check with some local towing companies. Ask them some general questions about how they would disable the type of alarm setup you had (of course they would probably just assume you were going to try and steal a car) then ask how they would tow a first gen. If they seem a little too familiar with it...well, you know what to do.
A tow truck picking up a car would more than likely not attract too much attention in the middle of the day.
Another thought.
Your car didn't get reposessed by the bank or something like that did it? I'm not trying to imply anything I just thought it might be worth mentioning.

Dude, that sucks. I hope for sure you get her back in one piece. I never had a vehicle stolen from me, but I once did have $2k in stereo equipment stolen from my car once, so I sort of know what you're going through.
I had no idea FB's were sought after. I suppose I'm going to have to get a hefty security system on mine.

just FYI for all you about alarms on cars. All car alarms, are required to be disabled when the car is lifted and is 40 - 45 degrees in relation to a level plain. so most car alarms have a built in auto shutoff in the box. so if you ever wondered why your car alarm was going off and you mounted your box sideways. thats why.
