my new toy

well, my FD has gotten to the point where i'm not going to be taking it on the road often so I started looking for something for a daily. lo and behold someone comes on nopistons needing to desperately sell their FB. It wouldn't pass emissions anymore and cali was going to crush it. I sent them the money and got a car hauler to bring the car to my apartment

it'll soon be registered in indiana but residing with me in wichita falls I've never done body work so may have someone else take care of the paint while I dig through to find what she needs. she runs and drives, but she's the same age as me so I know I'll be finding things to fix pretty quickly. Feel free to give any suggestions but keep in mind I plan on her being a daily, I already have my track toy haha.

also if anyone has the factory service manual for the 85, it'd be greatly appreciated. the link for it in the FAQ is broken and google isn't bringing anything of use up

Good score. A little paint, a little clean-up, a tune up, a little maintenance and changing of the fluids the car should run well The webber and headers are exactly what wakes these cars up. Make sure the shock and struts are in good condition. Replace the bushings in front with polyurethane. Make sure the steering box is adjusted correctly. Get a good alignment and she should be good to go.

It's not a monster turbo, but first gens are a blast to drive. You'll be hooked soon enough.

haha yeah, i've had an FB several years ago and that's what hooked me on rotaries. Another thing I'll probably do first thing is the bearings. It's something that gets overlooked way too often and isn't hard to do at all. Thanks for the suggestions!

Lake City manifold with a Weber. Good score! If you decide that 1rst gen needs a little shot of adreneline, just drop you a 13BT in it and call it a day.

for a bit of background my previous FB i made a custom ram air hood into the nikki and ran 2.5" exhaust straight out the back. I can't leave anything stock, but I can't get too wild with this one as I've spent too much on my FD already haha

Yeah, stock sucks. Too much paint on that engine for my taste, but looks good anyway. Ill take your S6 GT35R, and I'll one up you a S4/S5/S6 hybrid with a T04E.

first thing I'd do is change all the fuel lines going that weber and clean the fuel off of it... headers+raw fuel=boom!!

@bad, i like! I wish i could do rebuilds myself but i don't have any experience with the rotary so I need to get a blown engine to tear down and rebuild a few times before I'll be comfortable with rebuilding my own. the engine's red cause the car's going to be painted a sued black so the engine will get all the attention, as it should.

@rxdad, thank you!!

@81, That's definitely one of the first things I'll do along with getting a fire extinguisher haha. Is there any way to sheild the exhaust from fuel dripping directly on it? I love the way the sidedrafts look but I'm worried about fuel dripping out of it after shutdown onto the exhaust.

You could always get a wraparound intake. That would place the carb on top of the engine. The LakeCity manifolds make great power at wide open throttle, but street drivability sucks.

most of my driving is highway since I live in wichita falls and my base is in Ft. worth so I should be alright without any torque haha. If it becomes too much of a hassle I'll probably do like you said though and get the different intake manifold or make my own if i can borrow someone's welder haha
