my new 83 GSL
Hi guys,
After being out of the game for a few months I got the itch and started searching for a new FB
I searched for a few weeks and found this lil gem in the burbs. Shes a 83 GSL, 94K, all original. The body is clean no dents and no rust. The PO started having issues with the car bogging, he replaced the coils, dizzy, altenator, but the car is still having issues.
I took her home after checking it over I noticed the dizzy was not set correctly, carb was gummed up with bad gas, and sparkplugs look shady.I decided to drain the tank, replace the fuel filter, fresh fuel lines, I have the carb on my bench being rebuilt and stripped(still going to use vacuum) I got my block off plate, freeze plugs and intake gasket on its way.
My goal is to drop in the rebuilt carb, emmisions delete, re-stab the dizzy @ TDC, set timing and hope for the best

thanks for the kind words guys. Currently I'm finishing up the carb rebuild and this weekend I'm removing the emmisions. I got a strange feeling she's going to be running in no time!
a lil small update. Today I recieved my power pulse intake kit, block off plate and hylomar. I'm off work tomorrow so I should be done with the intake and emmisions delete. The last piece I'm waiting on is my "YOHOO" belt

shes bone stock and all original, I plan on keeping her that way. I also have a B210 with a 12A in it, its more of a track car though. Holley's are awesome I've used them since I was 17. I tend to lean towards a modified Nikki and Weber now
Yea I am trying to get my FB back on the road and going with a holley setup, She is 90% of the way there.
I agree! I've been working on my emissions delete, haven't had much time to work on her but I've been coming along.

Have you tried restoring compression with SAE 30wt down the carb while cranking? (Don't have your exhaust on obviously, just open header) It allowed my springs to return the apex seals back to their happy adjustable places (I had NOTHING pfh pfh pfh vs. brap brap brap).
Give it a shot.

Congrats and keep us updated!
Garage space helps with the time situation. Starting a project and not worrying about it for a week, is a great feeling. I think I'll modify my carb once I figure out exactly what's wrong with my fuel situation. Maybe one of us could post a write-up?
My next plan of attack is another spark plug (only had three new ones), a full mandrel bent exhaust (open header currently), fuel tank/radiator flush (again), and finally some new tread.

Update!
Well today I went to the garage and put some work into the ol' girl. I got the carb back on her and fired her up she's idling at 1.5k. I'm working on getting the idle lower. After the car was idling for a bit I noticed the temp gauge got about half way up. I turned her off and took a look at the thermostat. It has a bit of surface rust on it, after testing it I noticed that it isn't opening. I'll take a trip to the auto parts store in the morning and pick up a new one.
My 27 year old mazda thermostat finally took a dump recently and my temp gauge was also getting up to about half way. Did the stove top test and it was just slightly opening right before the water boiled. Thermometer said 205. I read a bunch of threads on here about how non-mazda thermostats were trouble, but I ended up getting a "valuecraft" from autozone for $8 that starts opening at 170-175, has the "wiggle-pin", and keeps the temp gauge just under the 1/3 mark (just where I like it). I would definitely test the replacement before you put it in though....the first one I picked up wasn't opening until 185-190. They were both listed as 170 degree thermostats. Also, having the slightly cooler thermostat hasn't adversely affected my fuel economy, and I am meticulous about logging my mileage. Lets see some more pics of the new ride. I personally love seeing shots of clean 1st gen undercarriages!!
