My GNRX-7 finally pics.... still no vid

Well my buddy clearly won't host up my vid he has so I might as well post some pics of the ride.

Shockingly I have no engine bay shots but i'll put some up another day.
The car made 464 Hp and 455 tq at the wheels. Needed more injector (excuse #1)
Made about 10 shakedown passes with a best E.T. of 10.96@126.3 on a 1.45 60' that all could have been improved with a 1-2 shiftpoint adjustment that I didn't have time to make (excuse #2)

And how she sits at this moment, rear axle being worked on and getting the full Moser treatment, wheel-e-bars, and switching to a QA-1 coilover setup inside the frame rails, copleting mini-tub all the way to the frame and allowing for about 13.5 inches of tire.

So thats my 3.8 Turbo Buick powered 84.

Do i have to be the first one that says, yes i am sure it is fast, but i think it looks horrible, sorry. That bulging hood, the rake... Really takes away from the 7's nice lines

I don't like the hood, but otherwise that's pretty neat. Nice to see a different piston engine swap for a change. Those turbo Buick motors are nasty. Pretty heavy, though, I bet.

mikewood - I agree but i bought it with the hood, it's too heavy any way so i will be making something new either hand hammered from aluminum or a custom fibreglass hood.

aws140 - It has well over 1500 Km of street driving, it has a 4 spd auto and gets about 30 Mpg highway, only problem is the 5 gal fuel cell stilld oesn't get you all that far.

Nice looking 7. The exposed intercooler must be an attention getter.

Ya there is about 3-4 more inches of it behind the rest of the bumper, and I've gotten some odd comments from car ppl I'd think should know better. That big RV- trailer combo beside my dads van (great tow vehicle) had a mid 10 second ****** tube chassis car, I talked to him for a while then he goes "hey whats with the crazy air system?" I went to get an alignment and they work on tons of crazy stuff there and the owner comes up to me when my car was on the rack and says " why the **** is your radiator dragging on the gorund?" I was kinda speachless.

For the record I'm not from Idaho but I use that plate when I'm at the track cuz the Ontario **** police will report plates to insurance companies or track you down for street racing once they get your number.

30 mpg is 100 cruising NO BOOST. The car is pretty well useless on the street tires i had on it this year, mashing 3rd gear resulted in about 3 seconds of acceleration then a drastic shift in the rear end about 4 feet to the left when the tires broke loose. Im switching to 5x114.3 front and back for wheel option, hoping to run a 375 on the rear hopefully be able to run the car a little harder on the street. With my 3.27 gear in the back with over drive it cruises at 95 km/h in the 1500 Rpm range.

At the track i used 3 gallons in 8-10 runs

Oh and the only thing that scares me about the IC placement is if the car starts pulling the front up hard it might make contact on the downward movement, i guess we will see. Hopefully the wheel-e-bars will help combat this problem.

as a former GN owner, I would like to know how you built the engine? Stock block w/ bigger turbo and injectors? Or, did you go all out and build a new bottom end?

Well sadly the motor has about 1500 km total on it BUT it's a stock rebuilt bottom end, I purchased the car as 1/2 finished project that did run and drive so that wasn't my doing. The car needed LOTS of TLC and little stuff to make it driveable and safe to try and run 10's and soon (when this snow melts) 9's. The rear end was SHOT needed rebuild wich we did with stock parts in september just for ease of availability (free) just to get her to a track. The comepition enginering ladder bars were not setup at all and the pinion angle was WAY OFF, gauges and such not working, fuel cell falling out of trunk due to shoddy construction of hatch floor.

ANYWAY if I find a deal somewhere I will be buying a fully built bottom end to go with my VERY ported heads. If i never find a deal or don't NEED a new bottom end I am hoping to budget in a fully built stage motor! With safe tunning and boost levels I don't forsee NEEDING a new bottom end untill I can afford my stage block. This year everything is being prepared for the big power, rearend build and coilovers and a BIG tire (for this car anyway) shopping for a powerglide rite now and finishing up my cage to a 12 point (6 now)

does it have a 400 or a built 2004r? How does the turbo spool? Are you able to get away w/ a 3500 stall or did they throw in a realy high stall for the track? Are you running alky or just race gas? I've heard of alot of guys actually going faster on goooood pump gas and alky than straight race gas. Also, whose chip ar eyou running, or are you tuning yourself? With that set up, traction, that 1000lbs lighter body, and traction!, you can easily hit 9's once its tuned...

Tuned by Eric at turbo tweak (chip) using 94 and straight meth, runs out of injector by 5100 rpm so ya i need those. The 3500 stall didn't spool it up as fast as i had hoped but it could have been a tuning thing didn't really have time to work on it this year but will be something for next year forsure. And yes i am hoping to run low 10's atleast first time out next year and get her to the mid 9's or better for the end of the summer when all our local mullet drag events take place. I just want to stop in and say hi, I know i can't beat high 7 second cars...yet.. but i think it'll be cool to have an rx-7 running against the mustangs, chevelles, fairmonts and whatever else.

wow, he must have you running pretty rich, or I didnt realize those injectors gave up at those power levels - 5100 rpms would be plenty on a stock engine, I guess with the heads you were looking for about 6k?

Ya i was looking in the 6k range, the heads should flow no problem but the afr's spiked big time in the 5200 range. Bigger injectors new chip forsure, probly going with a bigger dual BB turbo this year and an RJC girdle.

Also it's got a "freshened" 200-4r with a stage right transbrake but i want to go with a glide for next year.
