My first RX-7

I got the car back in July. Been busy with work so this the 2nd day that I've actually been able to make progress on it. It's an 85 S, no options what-so-ever. It runs pretty well minus needing some starting fluid to start cold. The rear end is blown, it drives but is super noisey and the fluid was super silvery. There is also some kind of leak near the headers. Also needs the old rubber replaced. I'm planning to pull the motor out clean the engine bay. I also got a Racing Beat front sway bar and full Energy Suspension bushing kit including endlinks. Not much progress yet and it'll be slow during the school year, so still a long way to go.

On jack stands with most of the suspension in the hatch.

Rear end off, somewhat stripped down. Having trouble getting one of the wheels off.

One of the bolts was broke in half so I'm not sure how to get the wheel off with out a welder.

Interior, needs work but overall not in terrible shape.

Congrats and welcome.

That bolt's not "broke;" so much as the press-fit chromed cap came off.

If you can find it, or if you can cause one of your other bolts to separate the same way, you can hammer the cap back on long enough to unbolt the 'broke' one.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll try that tomorrow. Yeah the dash and carpet are in great shape. Much better than expected for a 26 year old car especially one that only cost $500.

Well I'm trying to get an SE rear end so I can get lsd, rear disc, and the 4x114 lug pattern. I haven't found any rear ends yet though because all the junkyards in the area crushed their 1st gens as soon as I got one.

I've also got the Turbo II calipers and NA hubs to convert the front. I just need the Re-Speed kit, pads, rotors, and wheels.

Update:
All the arms are off and getting the old rubber pressed out. Definitely want to clean them up as well. Probably hit them with the sand blaster and some fresh paint.

This came in as well.

^Awesome. Now sell it and get the RE-Speed unit. Way better and much lighter. I'd kill for that interior. Mine is the same colour, except all faded a weird puke green shade. Good luck with the upgrades.

Thanks dude, I've got a couple of spares, but I couldn't figure out how to knock off the cap.

First and most important update. GSL rear-end. Going to sand-blast and paint. Also have SS lines on the way. If anybody has e-brake cables available please PM me:

Also awaiting cleaning and paint. Pressing in the new bushings soon:

Sorry pics are kind of blurry; they were taken with old camera phone.

Less important. Not sure if folks here are familar with Flocking, but I Flocked my headliner Got the stuff from Don Jer. Its their "wine" color. It matches the interior(though a little bit darker) and feels like suede.

You apply the adheisieve like paint and then through on the nylon fibers which are like powder.

Because I did a test in the area under the driver's side sunvisor, the rest didn't merge well together, so its kinda rough there.

Better replace that bent lower control arm. They're supposed to be straight, not banana shaped lol.

Finally, I got updates.
Steering from Moog; I got everything tie rods, idler arm, and pitman arm. I also cleaned and repainted the center link.

Arms have new bushings and I also cleaned and repainted them as well.

And new GSL rear end is in. Its got new fluid, Hawk pads, and SS brake lines. I also cleaned and painted it as well.

Still need to get driveshaft bolted in, hook up brake line to frame, sway bar endlinks, and parking brake cables.
