My 85 GS gets SE'd

Been planning on doing this since I got the car last Feb. I hate the 4x110's and drums. I bought a GSL-SE rear end like 8 months ago, bought the front SE stuff and set of SE wheels a month ago. I just needed tires. I scored a killer deal on some wheels so I decided to do it.

Ripped the diff out

Stupid drum brake rear end(for sale, works great!!!)

SE diff going in

Got the rear done, attacking the fronts

All done

Wheels are 17X7 +40 enkei's with 205/40's up front and 215/40's out back. Not a fan of the wheels. I plan on getting tires for the SE wheels for the short term and getting some 15's later.
The SE dif I bought was out of the car, I couldn't check to see how good it was. It was locked up, I hooked up the driveshaft up to it and turned it the starter. It freed up. The oil was nasty...like milky honey. I drained it all added some Valvoline 80-90 I had lying around. I plan on changing it out this weekend with Royal Purple and an LSD additive. I have a slightly noisy rear axle bearing, not to bad, but my main problem is the LSD seems shot. I tried to do a donut to test it out and it just peglegged. I think I'm going to rebuild it and install new bearings and seals....just need money.

well....I got a bent rear axle. Tube seems straight, but the axle is wobbly. I have axles, gonna take the time to swap 3rd members while I'm at it with one that seems better.

It's funny, with the drums, I could never get a good firm pedal. I bled the crap out of them, got new adjusters, adjusted them nice and tight, did everything. I could never completely get rid of the mush. Now with the discs the pedal is hard.

mine was done when I purchased it, dam thing drives like a go cart, much better than stock drum brake car. now all you need is some good springs and shocks. I have r/b red springs and tokeko blues, stiff as hell and corners great. as my dd I love to push it now and again. enjoy..nice choice
