Kinda looks like mine. Except for some reason my clear coat has no shine although the temp changed a good 10 degrees will applying and I have to go over another part near the hatched I effed up. Did all the work myself though and spent around $200. I thought it came out well for my first paintjob though.

hows the paint job holding up?

 

Here is probably one of my most recent pictures.

The paint is doing great. My only regret is that with my Hawk brake pads, they grind the rotors pretty hard and that brake (metal) dust has stained the bottom sides of the car a little. This is no fault of the paint job.

No peeling, no fading, no flaking. BUT the car does spend 90% of it's life in the garage!!

 

I see you went with wider tyres on your car now. those the 225's?

 

I'm still trying to decide whether to take the car to Maaco once I have the prep work done or use this as an opportunity to do it myself - always fun to learn a new skill.

I have the compressor and my neighbor Bobbie has a professional quality gun and expertise that's he's graciously offered, I would just need to find some good weather and put some tarps up around the carport to seal it up for the paint to dry.

But at only $250 and what must be a decent product Maaco may be hard to beat. And that silver racer looks just fine.

I need to do something this summer, the white undercoat is starting to show through the silver on the top. Decisions, decisions... any recommendations?

 

Based on my car's reception at shows last year, my MAACO paintjob seems to be holding up pretty well.

On the other hand, had it been possible to do it myself, I would have. But living in California and having only the one garage which includes our gas water heater made that a non-starter.

 

the CA part is nonsense. we work on the race car at my friends apartment, and we get in trouble for that, but the guy across the way painted his bug and nobody cared....

same thing down the street from the 'rents, the guy just puts up a tent, and its obvious he's painting, but apparently its fine? its in a neighborhood of expensive houses too.

 

I think it's the gas water heater he's worried about. Hate to see all those expensive houses in DD's neighborhood going up in a big explosion.

But that is one strike against doing it yourself, if something goes wrong it's your fault.

I have one houseload of eco-freak neighbors on my culdesac. The kind of unhappy buttinski busybodies who call the Code Enforcement people if they see what they consider to be excessive runoff from your yard sprinklers. A two-Prius household, no less. (What makes it worse is they are leasing the house... )

I've actually seen them check what I do in the garage.

Also a uniquely California experience. In other states I could just sit peacefully in my driveway cleaning sidearms til they shut up.

DD time to move to Georgia. You're paint will last longer too once you get out of that hot California sun.

Every body's too busy fixing and painting all kinds of stuff down here, checking out each other's handiwork, to be complaining.

Not sure if there's a Prius registered in Jefferson yet or not.

 

It seems like as the years go by we get more of those. You California people need to stop sending them to Colorado.

 

yeah ive run into that too... its really dumb, they complain if the car sits there quietly, but then they say its too loud when its running.... too dumb to realize they can't have both!
