Maaco paint job= excellent results!!
I wanted a cheap inexpensive paint job for my autocross car. If you have been following my other thread....I have been building a cheap and simple autocross car.
Anyhow, I spent about two full days pulling out dents, fixing dings, sanding old paint, and finally priming the car.
I then took the car to Maaco in Sugarland Texas and got their "EL CHEAPO" paint job.
The car was painted in two day and the total cost to Maaco....$250
I am VERY pleased with the results. Total time involved was about 1 week. Total cost $125 for sandpaper, bondo, primer, etc. + $250 to Maaco= $375 total

For the money I spent, I've been happy with my MAACO (one step down from their best) paintjob. Couple inclusions I don't like, and I had to make them strip the paint off of my muffler tips, but again, I got what I paid for.
Jim, did your other car ever come back out of paint purgatory?

The paint job looks nice. I think it'll stay on just because you did the prep work. I never doubted the paint job maaco did. Its the prep work (or the absence of). When I bought my car it was maacoed and it looked really good. It just didnt last long. The hardest part of painting a car is the prep work anyway isn't it? I think when I get my next 7 I may try doing exactly what you did.

That's certainly the way to go if you want to do it cheap. Full prep in the driveway then take it to them. They are notorious for **** prepwork, but that's also why the prices are so low. It turned out nicely.

I love that silver. I'm envious since my car is SUPPOSED to be silver, but someone gave it a really shitty white paint job sometime in the past, and it's flaking off now.
What did you use for primer? I'm thinking of doing the exact same thing, do the sanding/priming myself and then get Maaco to do a cheap sprayjob on it.

Shot the primer with an El Cheapo "cummings" tool sale gun.....about a $20 gun.

A paintjob is 90% prep.
The $250 Maaco paintjob does not include prep.
My GSL had a two year old Maaco jobber on it that was already peeling off.
If you sand, prime, and mask, I'm sure a Maaco jobber will be nice. It's what I'm going to do.

i work at a paint and body shop so i get free booth usage... but the prep work is the sucky part... plus my paint alone will cost more than 250... be careful buffing it if you do, its probably a thin coat... and if you wanna go crazy... wet sand it w/ 2000 grit.. yeah it seems pointless but it'll make it will bring out a shine way more than anything else i've seen. looks good though!!
