Does it make the car run better? I removed mine years ago and daily drive my car with zero issues .

A few guys will argue that its better to run without a rats nest. I removed mine once, years ago and noticed a drop in fuel mileage and an idle that wanted to raise or fall below spec at times. I reinstalled the rats nest and all other emissions components and the engine ran great again and mileage was up with no idle issues. Its a matter of preference really. Its not going to unlock any hidden power and can make diagnosing some running issues more difficult.

For folks that are not good at carbs, removing the rats nest can lead to all kinds of problems. The factory service manual has good info on how to adjust and troubleshoot carb issue. But, with the rats nest removed, that goes out the window. It can also be a challenge to get the setup correct with no rats nest. Not saying it's not possible, just saying those with less experience can have a big learning curse and get frustrated. Really depends on the goal they want to achieve. There is no magical power to be found by only removing the rats nest and gas mileage will suffer.
