Junk the FB for a SA

Well, my bro gave his SA to me as he no longer has time for it. Since this older (will match my collection of RX-3s) and it has cleaner (body wise than my sons FB), I'm transferring the 12-A motor and RB exhaust from the FB. We found this SA years ago with a blown motor but in original paint, clean body (except for a tiny ding on the fender), orig black interior. Been converted to 85 front suspension and rear disc brakes.

The FB is an 84 tornado gray with burgundy interior, converted to disc brake, RB front and rear sway bars, tokico blues and springs. So if anyone is interested in the entire shell, it will be up for grabs sometime in March. Otherwise, I will part it and chop the shell in pieces.

Looks like a nice complete car, though.

Mel, if you end up parting it out, I call dibs.
I need a nose piece, a cowl, and some steering components (for my respeed kit).

I would also need to move the thread, lol.

SAs rule! Nice 79 you have there. How early a VIN is it?

About time you had an SA. Definitely more your style, old school FTW.

Clean up that console and its a keeper.

I'd keep the black meshies on there. They match the car better than the ones in the
highway shot.

Sweet!

I love SA's! I hate to see any RX7 go to the scrap yard but I'd take a SA over FB any day!

sucks you would be so willing to chop the car up into pieces...guys like me would kill to have a clean california shell. here in ohio, we usually have excellent interiors due to it not being so hot but we have road salt, which means every car we have is plagued with rust.. CA cars are so rare in these parts that it seems such a waste to cut up a perfectly good shell..

Thats a clean looking SA.

mazdaverx713b,
So sad but true, there are tons of clean car out here with no home so they end up in the crusher. I dont know if its feesable, but with the time and effort you put into restoring your 7's couldn't you ship one in from CA to start off on a better platform?

i could.. and it would be feasable if i found the right car to start with. it would have to be a clean custom silver metallic 85 sunroof car with a full interior and it would have to be a roller at the very least. a non sunroof car would work but again, i'd have to find the car. the next restoration i have planned is for that particular shell and color. i could repaint a 7 the color i want but i would prefer to have a matching color code because i'm picky like that, lol.

the 7's i send to the scrapper are so rusty that the control arm mounts are literally falling off the shell and the wheel wells, front and rear would have to look like swiss cheese. otherwise, i'll save the car, fix it and put it back on the road.

no need to kill anyone, just go and pick it up!

and in the grass isn't always greener dept, the CA car won't rust, but we do crash em, so lookout for bondo/horrible body work

I hate to admit it but I had to chop up plenty of clean, rust free shells. Space is limited and buyers always end up flaking out. I just had to chop up a canary yellow SA cuase no one wanted even with the FREE price tag.

I had several SAs in the past and loved them due to its lightness; ported motor and welded 4.44 is a killer. I only switched to FB due to nicer interior. As I said, the FB will be up for sale but I really would like to part it as I have new suspension parts on it that I can use in my old school projects. I was going to pick up the SA this weekend but the rain (today until Sunday) ruined it. Its only a 2 hour job to transfer the motor and exhaust but rain = cold (I usually hibernate once temp drops to 50* lol)

Alex, what steering parts do you need as I have an extra steering box off a 83 GS. IF this is what you need, LMK, just pay for shipping and a 12-Pack of heine for packaging. lol

Put the FB interior and dash in the SA. You can have the best of both worlds.

I've done that too but its not the same as keeping the original interior/appearance in tact. My first SA was an 80 with 83 burgundy GSL interior and suspension. IMHO, suspension swap is an upgrade but not the interior.

I like the sa exterior and interior over the fb interior and exterior it just gives it more of an oldschool feeling.

Wacky, my last SA interior was shot all to hell, I really didn't have much of a choice swapping the interior for one out of a S3. I just did what I had to do. If the SA interior is in good shape, keep it. If not, then swap it. Anywho, my old SA Bridgeport. Maybe some inspiration for ya
