Its dead...
Last night on my way home from class, I went to pick up some cake for my mom's birthday last night and on the way home...
well I looked down to make sure the cake was okay and i didn't have enough time to tunr, hit a Chevy Blazer...
Blazer's fine, trim piece on the bumper fell off and it got a dent or two, but my car is gone...
The front crossmember is bent very badly, the front right corner of the car is gone... the engine still starts, but the radiator's shot...
I don't know what to do now, shared information, no one was hurt, I was the only person in the car and the blazer was parked...
yeah yeah... I'm fine.. but the seven...
I am going to have to take all the parts I can out of it and part it now...
As much as I hate doing this, I need the money and there's nothing else I can do with her...
So I guess PM if you need a running 12A or other stuff... I'll be on whenever, really depressed these days so I probably will not be on as regularly...

The same sort of thing happend to me a few years ago only I went under a chrysler sebring that stopped dead at a yellow light(in a rain storm.. he had abs I didnt) I just tore the whole front end off and drov it around any ways!
The motor was street ported with RB everything and a holly carb with all the front panels off the car it was so fast and real loud.... Made an excellent little rally car and turned alot of heads..... Lol

The guys at the shop cheered me up and so now I don't feel like throwing myself in traffic anymore...thank god for anti-depressent prescriptions ne?
Anyways, I went back to look over the car and was surprised that even though the damage that you can see... everything is fine...
Let me rephrase that;
Aside from extensive damage to the frame and body work, as well as the radiator... everything is fine...
The strut tower got pushed back hella far, but the tie rods, sway bars, struts and springs are all okay! The streeing works also, the engine fires up and the tranny ***** fine... if I had a radiator you could drive this thing!
Its amazing after all that, she still wants to keep chugging on!
So I decided to see if I should part her out, or just go with my orginal mod plan of replacing the frame from the firewall foreward, since there seems to be no tweakage at all past the firewall! The doors open and close fine, and everything is still lined up, all the damage is like 10 inches infront of the firewall!
well now I have to take care of the other guys, and then move onto figuring out what to do...
Well enough blathering, I know how we all love pictures, so here is y baby in critical condition still ready to turn on and go, as unbelivable as it is:
Stupid PhotBucket doesn wanna send the edits... -.-

I think that I could get by with about $200 on a straight frame from a junkyard...
I will keep your idea in mind Jeezus. I just don't want to spend $600 for a roller if I can do all the work myself and only spend $200? You know?

I'm a believe in the if you can fix it you should But seriously, i don't see the point.
Thats ALOT of damage. And even though you say the suspension etc is fine, there could very well be hidden stresses (stress points whatever you wanna call it) that could be dangerous in the long run.
If some people get running cars for 600, i dont see why a roller would be that much either. Cuz really all you need is the body and not much else.
Good luck whatever you wanna do but still, I don't think it would be worth the time or effort to straighten that, and it probably would cost more in the long run when you find out alot of stuff isnt as it appeared under initial inspection.

Holy hell that is one twisted RX! Glad you're all right. Definitely find another roller and swap your motor out. One of the best RX-7's I've ever owned was an 83 GSL with my crashed 81's engine in it. The roller was mint, owner was meticulous about the car, but didn't know rotary engines that well. There are still some good chassis's out there, just keep looking.

But even if it is the same how on earth are you going to manage all that yourself for under say 500 dollars.
Basically the front half of the unibody is fucked. I just dont buy that everything is hunky dory except the visible bits. Theres alot of structure in the visible damage, and i dont think its easy in anyways shape or form to replace the front half of your car.
Now maybe i am a skeptic but i just cant see it. But then again i have a hard time believing the Blazer was ok(a dent??) with that kind of damage on your car.
I'm not trying to step on toes or doubt your abilities, I'm really not, I just have a hard time believeing is all.

I live in Cali, so I wouldn't be able to pick it up But thanks...
As for the firewall thing, I have a buddy in my shop who rebuilt a salvage title Chevt Berretta that ws in a front end. He cut the damaged section roughly infront of the firewall and then put a new berretta end and engine in it, runs great so far...
But yeah... its a lot of work.

Well as usual its up to you. I just see it being waaaaay too much work. But if you do go that route it would be another 7 still being driven around i guess haha.

Dude, I am sorry to hear about your car. I agree that it will be easier and cheaper to find a roller to swap you good stuff into.
The second thing is (and more importantly) that you are ok. You can always replace sheet/metal, but you can't replace your life.
Now to the most important and totally forgotten thing....... Is your mom's B-day cake ok???? After all you were checking to make sure it was ok when you crashed... I hope it survived ok!
Sorry dude, not trying to make fun or anything, just trying to lighten up the atmosphere. Seriously though, if you start looking around, you are bound to find another 7 out there with your name on it.
Later,
Bill

I have a GSL-SE shell if you need one, it is non-rolling, only some remaining pieces will remain, you can have it for free after a couple weeks and you can swap everything over.

And this kids, is why we hate Federal automotive codes that let SUV's have bumpers 10" higher than normal cars.
Would have been way less damage. /end rant
Ok, your rad is shot, your bumper is shot, the entire front end of the car is just, gone. You're going to need to replace that hood, fender, most of the front frame, and the radiator. You'll need to pull the drive train to do it any how. I'd say take justinT's shell and swap over, then part the old shell out.
Judging by how your hood and fenders are mangled, I believe that there probably isn't a ton of unseen impact micro-cracking in the rear frame. I'd expect that the fenders and the hood did what the shock absorbers in your bumper are supposed to do (and would have done if the SUV had been as low as it should have been) and slowed the car down a fair bit before you reached a structural component. Still, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if there was some crack in a weld somewhere and I really don't see replacing the entire front end of the car as being easier than swapping over.
