Identify this header...

Hey guys and gals, I picked up this 12a header for my 79 yesterday. I'm not quite sure exactly what brand or even car it was originally made for. What can't be seen in the pics is the end of the collector, it hasn't had a flange cut off, or if it was cut off, the person doing so did a very clean job of it. Also, this is for a 12A engine. So let me know what you think it is...

to me it looks like a home made unit using an early racing beat flange

Not sure it is a home made piece. I've done a bit of searching, and between the RB and mazdatrix websites it looks like an early (pre RX-7) header. Those don't have a flange on them and are a bit shorter than the RX-7 headers.

This is straight off the RB website. Bends look too similar to me all the way down to the collector for it to be a custom piece. Even the pipe has a wall thickness of .120 (standard RB issue lol) Its the lack of the RB insignia cut into the flange thats mostly throwing me off though.

It does however need some repair, as can be seen. I've found a supplier for thick walled (14ga) aluminized steel or 12ga 304 stainless mandrel bends. I measured up the bend I need to replace and it looks to be a 3" radius.

you could very well be correct. the flange is most certainly a RB piece!

Actually the rust looks worse than it is. Overall, besides the one repair thats needed on the rear rotor primary tube, the header is in great shape. A little bit of wire wheel work and maybe a bit of sanding and all that old paint and rust will be gone.
