i'll have to admit that the Saab 9000 turbo does look pretty sharp. Saab's have lost a lot of their shapre over the years and have blended in with the market's "cab forward" design. i always loved the rear opening hood (reminicent of a C4 Corvette exposing a lot of vitals) and i've laways loved the key by the shifter and the shifter lock with the key out of the ignition.
i've been tearing into the right rear of the car to replace the rear wheel bearings and i can say that this 944 is the best built car i've ever worked on (for 26k in 85 it had better be built well) and its components are savage. i'll post pics of the process. even though its a higher marque automobile an dbuilt better, i still love my 7's much more. they are more simple and a lot eaiser to work on!

here's where i'm at now with the wheel bearing replacement. gonna turn the rotors and replace the pads while i'm at it as both look pretty scummy.

one of my hidden car fantasies has always been a Porsche 944.. i own one and wanted to share with my fellow RX-7 enthusiasts, one of my hidden secrets.. bear in mind, its a work in progress.. and when i start working on the car a little more here and there i'll post more pics. the car was originally sold in TN and spent a lot of its life in AL. i am the 4th owner. it has 119k miles and has a 5spd. it really needs seats and a dash recovering..all of which is in the saving $ process.

Making good progress Dave! Haven't checked the forum in a few days, laughing my *** off over here to see that you're using my name (Dave Jr v3.0) for Annabelle haha. Shows how nerdy I am though....

I like the 944. A friend of my parents had a 944 turbo race car. The thing was crazy fast. My parents are big porsche fans. They had a boxster the same as purple82. They traded that in for a boxster s 550 special edition. My dad also had '70 911 targa race car. Now he has a '72 2002 and a '74 2002.
I'm more of an american car person. I have my '64 Galaxie 500XL and '70 Ford F250. I used to have a '57 ****** Wagon. I have been thinking of building a '65 Ford Cortina 12A race car.

i dunno, i do really like the boxster, it makes porsche noises and the top goes down, what more do you need?
back in the day, when we had FD's though the boxsters were EASY pickings, even the S models, like i say, the top goes down, and it makes cool noises, but its not fast, and that's fine.

When I was in high school my parents had a '65 Galaxy, white convertible with the red interior, 352 automatic. Had many a good time in that car.
And my grandmother drove a '63 Falcon, same as yours Dave except black.
Back then American cars Ruled the Road. How things have changed.

as i was digging into the right rear growling noise on my 944, i was hoping that i had diagnosed the issue properly. the issue that i'm having is that i hear growling, feel vibration, and can hear a clunking noise in the right rear over bumps. i was thinking i had a faulty wheel bearing set in the right rear and decided to start there. as i tore the right side down, it seemed as though the outer bearing had given up the ghost. the inner bearing looked fine. i'm going to replace both tomorrow and install the new seals that came in today. then i'll do the left side just to be safe. this is what i found on the right rear:

doesn't look like the inner bearing has even been out:
outer bearing removed from the hub:
as the car sits now, waiting for me to finish the job tomorrow:

wow that was a nasty looking bearing and grease. I've never seen grease turn the color of rust before.

i'll paint it at some point but not now. i don't have the time to do it and if i pull i apart i have to replace the bushings..which i don't have the money for right now. the rust is minimal surface rust and is amplified by the flash. it looks fine for now and i will paint it when i replace all of the rear suspension bushings and get a four wheel alignment.

Every time I'm under the Rx-7, I find a another little spot to brush and paint. This weekend when i was installing the fuel pump, I gave the lower link brackets on the axle a shot of rust-converter and black coat.
