I don't know how long my Cavalier will last as a 3.8 GNX RWD wagon.
As in the other thread, 20.

Had a '79 and in '87 had to sell it for a box on wheels with a back seat (room for a baby seat). Bought another, an '82, in '03 and still fixing it up. Now my teenage daughter want's to drive it ... I'm not ready for that though ... BTW, I'm 42.

My first car was a 47 Caddie I had in college - it was ten years old when I bought it. My first sports car was a 59 TR-3, bought in 1962. My first rotary was an RX-4 wagon, can't remember how many RX-7s I had, but they were all 1st gens. And I bet I had more 1st gen RX-7 convertibles than anyone here!
I don't like the increased bulkiness, increased weight and less than optimum visibilty of the 2nd, gen and I especially don't like the increased complexity. I think the sunroof and headlights have almost as many moving parts as my whole 1st gen car.
As for the 3rd gen, my friend, who worked for Mazda USA summed it up when he said "It is a fantastic car, but you don't want to own one past the warranty period."
And finally: "driving my 1st gen I don't get 'challenged' at every stoplight"
I almost never get challenged at a stoplight in my 1984 GSL. Most ricers are smart enough to be intimidated by the rough idle and nasty rumble of my V8. I actually think stoplight drag racing is very childish and immature. Of course, if the guy is driving a Porsche or BMW, well you just do what you have to do!

lest here it for the rx7 in the shop, and the manditory daily driver,, oh ya,,
im proud of owning these two cars, myself,, while still going to school and commuting everyday,, i just cant stand it when kids my age get help from mom and dad for thier first car and then destroy it,,, its more of a lesson if you wreck one yourself.. ha.

I just turned 18 in November. I own a 93 FD currently undergoing an LS1 swap. The Daily Driver is a 96 civic, previously Boosted, but now i just want to conserve gas.. And yes, paid this all myself. Fixing computers and graphics/website design pays off, oh yeah and also working at Mervyn's
