I'm in the process of collecting parts. Won't happen for a couple years though. The car needs lots of work, and I want to drive it for a year or so before boosting it.

web777 02-24-04 12:47 PM

My car is at the body shop now so it won't look like this in about a month or so.

wow web 777 that pic of your car looks really GOOD! Do you have any other pics of the exterior?

web777 02-24-04 01:07 PM

That pic came out good. It looks shiney but it really isn't.
I actually do not like that color. I've since sold the rims 'cause the back had a different offset and was rubbing too much. Here's another angle.

Looks good, what kind of springs do you have on it and what size are the wheels and tires?

onepointone 02-24-04 01:21 PM

im in the process, which is almost done. it should be running in the next couple of days.

its not a rotary though (as i put on my flame suit)

Why waste a good gen 1 car by adding a gen2 engine and making it a mongrel cross breed.

Out of the 471,009 gen1s made, some 450-500 have had a Turbo II engine fitted. Generally those still existing after some 400,000 have been scrapped are now cheap cars and it would be a waste of money fitting a turbo II engine. You would never get your money back and they will never become a classic.

However, you can have great fun with the more powerful car, but it will not be a genuine gen 1.

Perhaps a new forum should be started for them!

It's not a waste, it's a improvement.

If you think the intention of building a turbo FB was a investment you have a screw or two loose.

It is a lot more fun and I don't care that it's not "genuine".

New forum?... Not a bad idea, we can call it "fast 1st gens"

Aye Carumba!!

Who builds up car as an investment? Who cares if it becomes a classic?

This is just my opinion, but why wouldn't you want to improve the car in everyway? More power, better brakes, better interior etc. It makes for a much more enjoyable driving experience, and isn't that what the car was created for in the first place.

S2-13BT- I agree that its great to improve the looks and performance of your car. The question is how far you take it without loosing the spirit of the original concept.

As you say its a matter of personal view. For example your choice is to delete the factory Mazda badges and add the 'Anfini' infinity symbol which the car does not justify or deserve.

Out of interest there never was an Enfini RX-7 badge!. The Anfiini IV based on the 1991 RX-7 did not carry a RX-7 badge except in an artists impression in an early press release. Mazda used Infini in Japan but Anfini. in its English press releases.

Who said anything about Enfini? I have a Efini badge on my car which is simply the name the early FDs where sold under in Japan. Nothing more, nothing less. There is no Anfini that I've ever heard of before now... The badge looks pretty fancy and it's got shiny bits, so I like it.

If we were ever to meet on a race track, you'd get a good look at it, as my turbo 1st gen, would be much faster that your genuine RX7. :p:

Also, I don't think it's very polite to say my car doesn't justify or deserve whatever badges I want to put on it. I suppose it's a good thing it's my car and not yours. To each their own.

Stoopid double post!

I think putting a turbo in is not "loosing the spirit of the original concept". You do know that they made 12A turbo's, right?

fitzwarryne 02-24-04 07:55 PM

web777- yes I do know Mazda dropped the 12AT from the Cosma into the RX-7 in late 1983 when sales were declining. Some 600 cars were produced with 12AT engines which produced around 136 hp SAE.

I have nothing against the terbo in the 12AT format or a 12A with an added turbo. In 1982 my brother bought a new Mazda Elford RX-7 turbp which produced 165hp. I added a turbo to my Lotus 47 way back in 1971 in an early experiment of its use.

fitzwarryne 02-24-04 08:33 PM

S2-13BT I am puzled by your reference to Efini, The model name Infini had been with Mazda since 1987 and there was a special products division called Infiniti using the infinity symbol. In its English press releases mazda spells it Anfini, its a problem of pronunciation when E is not on a Japanese typewriter.

The Infini IV was a special run of gen 2s which Mazda said offered a glimpse of the next generation due in 1991. When the gen 3 was launched it was was sold through the Infiniti Division.and refered to as the Infini but this name was soon dropped.

To confuse matters, infinity is 'mugen' in Japanese and is represented by Z. This is used in the RX-7 RZ model. Prior to the RX-7, the name and symbol was used by Datsun in its Z car series.

S2-13BT 02-24-04 09:59 PM

That's interesting.

I've heard the Infini thing, and have read in numerous places about Efini FDs (try google) including the place where I bought the Efini badge (www.rx7.com).

I've never heard Anfini though.

Let's just stick with 'Mazda'. :D Better stop whoring this thread too!

HELL YEA ITS WORTH IT!!!

I've been driving FBs for 16 years as my daily driver. I should have put the T2 in a long time ago. Certainly lots more fun to drive and maybe now I won't get beat by F-150's!

Worth it--hell yea. OK I got about $4500 into the car and I'll drive it for another 3-5 years. Then I'll get a new 7 or 8.

Scott
