How many people are acutally Turbo 1st gen owners, and who is in the process

I've noticed over these past few weeks, lots of Turbo 1st gen related posts have been comming up.
Just wanted to know whos done it and whos still doing it.

I for one am in the process

S4 T2 going into a GSL-SE

coldy13 08-21-03 07:29 PM

I'm in the process, almost finished. Just need to do the turbo oil feed/return lines and put on the new furl pump and pressure regulator. Then I get to finally drive it :)

eddierotary 08-21-03 08:11 PM

im a turboFB owner and in still working on it

CheddaKing 08-21-03 08:15 PM

Working on my S5 TII swap, ill be done soon, end of september at the latest.
Speaking of, anyone have a good fuel pump for a swap they woudl be interested in selling?

inittab 08-21-03 08:17 PM

That's awesome coldy13!

When I win the lottery is when I build my turbo FB...... oops I don't play the lottery. I always thought of the lottery as tax on stupidity.

Rex4Life 08-21-03 08:39 PM

I'm going with a stock S4 TII with S5 turbo. Hoping by the end of the year to be installed and running.

This week getting the front cover drilled out for a 5/8 straight thread to -10 flare fitting for the turbo oil drain.

Got a WRX hood scoop yesterday, gonna look a lot better than the offset TII hood scoop.

Engine going in for a Kevin Landers rebuild soon.

Still collecting lots of parts and new stuff.

Still waiting for them dam gauge pods to be made up.

Can't wait for the extra power--yea.

Scott

The_7 08-21-03 09:21 PM

Im too poor to have a turbo FB :(.....someday, someday...

mwpayne 08-21-03 10:01 PM

"Engine going in for a Kevin Landers rebuild soon."

Better get in line..I was at his new shop today and he's got at least 10 rebuilds lined up to do!

Tust me, if I can afford to put a turbo on my 12a, anyone can afford it. I make $6/hr, and work 10-20hrs a week. If you can do the labor yourself, it doesn't really cost much. My setup is easily under $1000.

hornbm 08-21-03 10:31 PM

yeah but the problem is the cost is never what you think its going to be and it allways takes way longer than you thought. I didnt even go turbo and it took me allmost 8 months to do my 13b swap.

The real problem is you start looking at things like, "well the engine is out anyway, I might as well get a centerforce clutch in there too", etc.

coldy13 08-21-03 10:43 PM

That $1000 is including a Dual Friction 6puck clutch with racing pressure plate :) I have nothing left to buy, just finishing up and waiting for a couple parts to come that have already been ordered.

I'm with you on the time thing, I havn't had my car together all summer. Luckily I've had another car to drive, but it sucks not having my 7 running.

Mr. ImportGuy 08-21-03 10:44 PM

I have 2 FB's and havn't driven either sence last year... I need to win like the lotto or somthing haha.

WanKeL FD RX-7 08-21-03 10:44 PM

I'm looking to put a Turbo S5 engine in my 83 GS. With 3000$ CDN budget, is it possible ? I want to run it stock boost, engine stock..

RotorMotorDriver 08-22-03 01:53 AM

Mine was stolen, and I wanted a 13BT, so I might as well drop one in since I need a new engine now anyway, so I guess you could say that Im in the process.

rx7passion 08-22-03 03:25 AM

i think you need another choice, who "has" been a owner of 13bt powered fb. ;)

I'm in the process.

S5 13BT
S5 tranny..

hondah8er 08-22-03 09:41 AM

T2 1st gen with 60-1 soon to be installed. Although i've had it with the stock turbo for almost 3 years now

thecause17 08-22-03 09:50 AM

I'm considering tinkering with a turbo set-up of some sort. I wouldn't take out my motor though. It's just too low of milage and running to good to toss for another one, so I would rather work with this one, having 15k miles on it and all....

knight1976 08-22-03 09:52 AM

I am in the collecting stage of my parts. I just need a carb hat and ic pipe then i will be able to put it together.

fatboy7 08-22-03 11:35 AM

I just got mine running.

onepointone 08-22-03 11:43 AM

im in the process... but its not rotary (puts on flame suit)

Metallic_rock 08-22-03 12:08 PM

I've got the 13b 4 port already, so... I'll do it eventually.. maybe when I get a bonus or something.

setzep 08-22-03 11:07 PM

Running here.

I didn't realize how many people were "in the process"

Who are the 2 that have a supercharger running?

13Bfirstgenrx7 08-22-03 11:29 PM

I won't be "in the process" anytime soon :-). I am in the process of redoing my 13b 4-Port with 89-91 rotors and upgrading the oil system. THe car runs just a s good as a boosted 7, but since It's my daily driver and I am a little nut I don't think going to boost is for me. I just want to break 12's all motor in my daily driver. I already hit a 13.8@103 all motor on street tires so I have a couple of more mods and I can see it hitting 12's. I have much respect for all these boosted 7's but I'll stay Puerto Rican old school for now.

setzep 08-22-03 11:40 PM

Nice car, welcome aboard!

103mph is pretty damn good for a SP 13b NA! Just get the 60' times down and a few more ponies and you are there :)

13Bfirstgenrx7 08-22-03 11:46 PM

Thanks setzep,

Yeah thats my main problem. My 60' was a 2.4. Thinking of throwing on a set of drag radials on there once the engine is past it's break in point...

S2-13BT 08-23-03 02:03 AM

Mines running. It'll never be finished though. :)

jutny 08-23-03 10:42 AM

gonna start a s5 tII motor into one of 2 SA's that i have.

chuckmorgan79 08-23-03 12:04 PM

yeah i just got my 12a BAE setup running...

i'm getting around 5psi with just the primaries, need to get the secondaries opened up.

idles like crap, but calms out around 1500rpms.

680RWHP12A 08-24-03 12:27 AM

i have a 12a turbo... runs great!!!!

Directfreak 08-24-03 01:05 AM

Okay,

680RWHP12A 08-24-03 01:22 AM

the car has gone low 10's already . the pony is boosting 24psi too!!!!

my car is fianally tuned to damage some pistons!!!!

ill post the video tomorrow for you guys to see.....i cant wait , this will be the first victim since i switched over to the fuel injection.........:whipit:

RotaryRevn 08-24-03 01:36 AM

I would like to do one. The only thing holding me back is that is wouldn't pass the smog check for CA. Any ideas? The only thing I can think of is swapping the stock motor back in every two years for the smog check. I got the engine, got the microtech, just wish it would pass smog damnit!

Oh yeah, lets get some pics on this thread!

680RWHP12A 08-24-03 01:53 AM

anything will pass in CA. if you got the $$$$$$$
i own 8 rx7's and not one passes smog!!.....leagally

i look at it like this... the money i save registering my old cars (each one costs around $30.00) compared to my friends that pay $1,500 and up for thier new sports cars
i have lots of money left over!!

setzep 08-24-03 09:39 AM

8 Rx-7's!! Do you drive and insure them all?

Also, can't wait for the video!

RotaryRevn 08-24-03 12:31 PM

Ok, I am really considering it now. I just thought it was hard to find the "smog friendly" shops these days. I may need to PM you if I decide to go through with it for a good place to go.

Papasmurf 08-24-03 02:20 PM

I am in the process right now. I need a gsl-se oil pan, and then I can drop the engine in and make some measurements on where I want everything to go. Mine will not be street legal but I will drive it anyway. I will go the holley route.

coldy13 08-24-03 04:08 PM

Here's a couple pics of mine, just waiting for fuel pump, pressure regulator and some exhaust pieces and my car will be running :)

Looks great coldy 13! I don't want to sound dumb but is that a first gen intake manifold?

coldy13 08-24-03 04:28 PM

It is, but not a normal one. It is from a 12aTurbo, and has LOTS of porting done to it.

Papasmurf 08-24-03 04:33 PM

Oh. I was hoping to be able to use mine for the time being. Thanks for the reply. Anything else you want to tell me about your setup as seeing I would be running very close to yours. I don't have a turbo picked out yet. But any pointers would be great. Thanks.

coldy13 08-24-03 04:53 PM

I'm using the stock TII turbo. The manifold is form the TII also, just hold the 12a exhaust gasket to it and grind it so it matches the gasket. For the turbo's cooling drill and tap the front cover for the turbo oil return, and put a T fitting at the oil pressure sender for the oil feed. Custom 2.5'' exhaust. The carb hat in the 1st picture was too tall, so I had one made from Mid-Ohio Products(dad's work) that is much shorter. I'm using a GSL-SE fuel pump and a Mallory fuel pressure regulator. The BOV I got off ebay for $50, the seller had over 600 reviews, all good saying the bov's work great, so I bought it. I won't have an intercooler. Most of my parts came from www.rotaryshack.com Robert there does great work, but it takes a while to get parts form him. If I think of anything else about my setup I'll post it too. Unless you're going for over 300hp, then I would just get a TII turbo, they're cheap and work good.

I know some people use their stock manifold, it can be done. The thing is though, the turbo will hit the manifold, so you either have to make a custom exhaust manifold, or make a spacer to move the turbo away from the intake manifold.

clarksonrx7 08-24-03 05:39 PM

my setup is almost done, 12a with s5 TII turbo and manifold. costing way more than i thought it would. vovlo 760 intercooler, carter 15lb fuel pump, greddy profec B spec 2 boost controller. blitz BOV, just plumbed all of the oil and water lines, put the turbo on but it hit the intake manifold even with the acv removed, now im trying to find a weber carb and manifold. does anyone know if a weber manifold sticks closer to the motor than the stock one? id like to have a tubular intake manifold, then i would have plenty of clearance i think. anyone have any ideas on what i should do?

S2-13BT 08-24-03 11:03 PM

Here are some pics of my car... None of the engine though, which is probably what you wanna see! :p:

I'll get some engine shots up later.

My car.

fatboy7 08-25-03 12:28 AM

Nice professional looking photos.

BadAssRX-7 08-25-03 12:40 AM
